Bata Bullets was a nickname for some of the most popular shoes of our (those of us prob 24+ in age) primary school life. I belive that Bata was a Canadian co. that was like the "Payless Shoe Store" of T&T back in the 70s and mid 80s.

I remember going into the store as a child and seeing these huge baskets of shoes.... all black shoes in one basket, all brown in another etc. It was the most popular brand of school shoes because they were fairly cheap and monotone which was good for the then strict school rules about dress code.

They carried the nickname Bata Bullets becasue somehow, perhaps because they were light, fellas figured they could outrun anyone wearing any other shoe.

These and many other experiences I believe are the elemental things that are part of the fabric of our psyche that from childhood contribute to our love of the Speed Lifestyle.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Well I know it sounds corny but I think that this one is something that many can identify with. In fact, the shoes were actually scorned by some so in a sense it was the rat fink, underdog shoe (owner) that was out to disprove the rest. There are many, many other experiences that make up the sources of our inclinations to experiment with speed and competition. But yeah now it sounds corny, back then those fellas were serious about it lol...

I'm sure we all have some similar elementals to share... might be playing with corgi cars or hitting up Outrun in the Arcade. Feel free to add.

Why do people (who like speed) like speed? This is a question I've been wanting to hear everyone's answer to. Did their mothers drive or were driven fast while they were in the womb? That was the case with me (and my bro & sis), so speed feels VERY natural Very Happy and I'm actually not joking.

Hmm good question - let's see....Dad was totally into cars, so its prolly genetic in that respect. He's prolly the only one in my entire family that was really into it to the level of hardcore tuning etc. When i was small i grew accustomed to his spirited drives..use to luv 'em really..wind the window down and feel the breeze while he's pumping a lil 160 or 180 or so. He luved the old school babies...had everything from Escorts to Capris, so that grew off on me as well. Generally love for racing and cars kinda comes partly from him and his driving, i guess partly from genes and partly just myself watching and loving the experience and thrill of racing and cars! Very Happy

this is where someone comes in and says like a honda hahaha

and with responce tothe other thing as sux said its probubly genetic

my dad was all into the racing scene rallies and circuit racing back in the 70s and so was my uncle. so there was always a car around for him to be working on and there still is (stinking escort park up for about15years now) and i guess i feel i have to save the love of it and keep it alive in my family.
especillywhen i see like all his old trophies and pictures. I say to myself "wow my dad was cool lol. i want to be just like that" sounds corny but hey lol

I think the Bata that got the brand the name Bata Bullets was the "shell-toe" type shoe...kinda like the Adidas version, but VERY plain. Jus a kinda canvas material with this big rubber "bullet tip" over yuh toes. lol

I've seen Bata stores in St. Lucia and I think Dominica in the last couple years.

narend bring back memories now oui.....

...but i feel it's genetic, my father used to race in wallers back in the 70's and that where i got it from.

....not to mention my neighbours were all into cars so i grew up around it and will always be involved somehow.

Speed!... Glorious SPEED!...
I think maybe it's a form of genetically influenced, mental illness.
Maybe it's transmitted either via the birth process, or possibly at conception* Laughing
(* That one depends on exactly who was going (or coming) fast at the time, I suppose Twisted Evil Mr. Green )
Close contact with other infected persons may also cause infection (like an STD.)
Either that, or it grows on you like a fungus or a bad rash.
ANY / ALL of the above. (*Whichever direction you're Coming or Going) Very Happy

BTW - From personal observation (all in the interest of science of course!) I have found that
a much slower introduction, at least with some driving techniques,
tend to cause the greatest infections of the Speed bug. Laughing

All in all, I'll have to ask my parents... and then my wife and kids. Very Happy

My $0.69c & then my $0.10c Laughing
