|
The Peugeot Flux concept is the winner of the 2007 Peugeot International Design Competition. The 2007 brief asked for a vehicle which could be used as a sports car but which was versatile enough to be used for mild off road excursions.
Designed by a 20 year old Romanian, Mihai Panaitescu, the Peugeot Flux concept will go on show at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show as a full-size model. As a further bonus the Flux concept will become a feature in an upcoming Xbox game.
The compact Peugeot Flux concept measures 3.5 metres long and 1.65 meters wide. Power comes from a rear-mounted hydrogen fueled engine, the fuel tank is mounted up front.
Materials used in construction of the Peugeot Flux include plastic for the body, polyurethane for the seats, and aluminium for the chassis and mechanical elements.
The panel of judges for the 2007 Peugeot design competition included Peugeot design managers, Xbox representatives and several automotive journalists.
Other Peugeot design competition winners included the Peugeot 4002 and Peugeot Moovie.

Radical Peugeot 360 car rides on spheres instead of wheels
Heres a extraordinary concept: a car without wheels, instead using three spheres to move in any direction. Designer Andrei Frana created the Peugeot 360 with an electric motor driving each sphere, using a system of pulleys coordinated by an on-board computer to keep things from going out of control.
Its a fanciful design that might be more practical when fly-by-wire computerized drivers take over a few decades from now. While its not as crazy as the two other Peugeot-themed fantasy designs weve shown you, it's still slightly far-fetched. That said, this 360-degree steering would sure make it easy to do some sideways parallel parking.

Peugeot 888 future car is a concept done right: shape-shifting and green
The Peugeot 888 is billed as the "personal vehicle for the future Metropolis." For designer Oskar Johansen from Norway, that means a car with space for two with room for luggage, as well as a nifty shape-shifting body. On the highway, the Peugeot 888 stretches itself out flat so that it's stable and aerodynamic. In the city, however, it scrunches up for easier parking and taking up less of the road in general.
Just to make sure it'll fit in with the eco-minded future, the 888 is powered by electric motors in each of its wheels, runs off of an array of lithium-ion batteries stored in the trunk, which, in turn, is covered with solar panels.

Peugeot unveils electric-powered, three-wheeled car of the future
Last year Peugeot launched the fifth edition of its annual design contest, this time asking creative types around the world to "Imagine the Peugeot in the worldwide megalopolis of tomorrow." Many interesting entries were shown off, but the ultimate winner was Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar, a Columbian designer who created a sleek, electric-powered, three-wheeled Peugeot design that looks futuristic, but entirely practical.
The one-seater Peugeot RD would feature voice-assisted driving, and a single panoramic windshield. In addition to the 10,000 euros and an Xbox 360, part of the prize was seeing the design become a reality (shown above). The concept car is currently on display at the Shanghai Motor Show.
You can see video of the other entries here. http://www.peugeot.com/en/design/design-contest/5th-edition/2008-theme.aspx
