Thanks sportsman. It looks like a VERY useful upgrade...
Motec wrote:
OVERVIEW:
MoTeCs Mitsubishi Diff Controller (MDC) replaces the factory fitted Active Centre Diff (ACD) controller. It is a bolt-in replacement for Lancer Evo 7, 8 and 9 models, making use of the factory mounting points under the dashboard. The MDC can be used in vehicles fitted with the ACD/AYC (Active Yaw Control), but the AYC will be disabled.

It is worth considering the installation of a MoTeC M800 Plug-In ECU in addition to the MDC to take advantage of several additional features. Using the RS232 serial communication link, all values from sensors connected to the MDC can be logged in the M800 Plug-In ECU without having to duplicate any of the sensors.

FUNCTIONALITY:
The MDC is used to adjust the torque split between the front and rear differentials to achieve greater control over handling characteristics such as traction, braking on loose surfaces, turn-in response, and understeer on both corner entry and exit.
The centre differential is essentially a limited slip differential with adjustable preload. The preload is proportional to the fluid pressure in the centre differential. The MDC works by regulating solenoid current, which in turn, controls the fluid pressure. When no pressure is applied (0% lock) the centre differential operates as an 'open diff'. With increasing fluid pressure (increasing percentage lock) the preload increases, requiring more torque difference between front and rear wheels before the centre differential will slip.
There are six selectable control modes: 0% lock, 100% lock and four user-configurable modes. These modes can be cycled through using the factory dash mounted ACD button.

MDC Manager Software:
This Windows-based software is used to create, edit and send a configuration file to the MDC. The configuration file determines exactly how the MDC unit will operate.
The Mitsubishi Diff Controller can be configured with an acceleration table, a braking table and a desired slip table.
Communication Cables
To connect the MDC to a PC running MDC Manager software, a UTC (USB to CAN adapter, including CAN cable) is required.

FEATURES:
6 x Selectable control modes:
1 x 0% lock mode
4 x user-defined modes
1 x 100% lock mode
Control modes can be selected using the dash mounted ACD button. Each mode is configurable with an acceleration table, braking table and desired slip table. The percentage lock can be configured using vehicle speed and throttle position. With the MoTeC Plug-In ECU connected, engine efficiency point can be used instead of throttle position. The ECU will calculate and then send the efficiency point to the MDC. This feature uses the factory wiring loom.
With the RS232 serial communications configured, the MDC can send wheel speeds, lateral G-force, longitudinal G-force, steering position, diff parameter and fault codes to the MoTeC M800 Plug-In ECU without the need for additional sensors.
The CAN interface optionally transmits the sensor and diagnostic information to a MoTeC Dash Logger.
Handbrake override.

Depending on final price (for multi-use) laptop flashing might make it cheaper than other "re-flash" or 'fixed flash" alternatives.
After just ADD an adjustable RaceLogic Traction Control to it.
That's why I'm looking for a Transfer Case from an Evo 7-9 for my Evo 6 to do just that.
Adjustable front-to-rear torque bias... plus adjustable traction control... IMHO that would be the
best-of-both-worlds. A 4WD Evo handling like a "chuckable" RWD ol' schooler... but at 10-15 mph faster through the corner! Cool

My $0.02

Evo Specific Issues: Here's some more info about Reflashed Active Centre Differential ECUs for the E7-E9 range...

Schematic of ACD operation...

Here's another supplier of reflashed ACD ECUs...

Hi Everyone,
Here is the rom, and a slightly higher res version of that other picture.

More info...

I did a quick disassembly of that rom, and something definitely looked "off";
the reset vector referenced an address near the end of the ROM that was actually a long series of 0xFF.

Once I changed the init from 0x14000 to 0x4000, things start looking more like an initialization routine,
and all the other vectors matched up to something sane. So, I moved the segment from 0x0 to 0x10000,
and references were all correct. Cool, albeit a little odd.

^ ^ ^ My E6 is an RS2. No ACD (yet)... No AYC (at all.)

The programming gurus on OpenSource and evom.net are playing around
with source code and hardware for ACD reflashes now... Cool

^ ^ ^ AFAIK most reflashes disable the AYC function in the ACD/AYC ECU.

Looks like they are finding that adjustable front-to-rear Torque Split is more important to gaining
better handling than adjustable side-to-side Yaw Control... More rear bias = Less Understeer.

Yup, its taken everybody over ten years to realize that ol' school RWD handles more
consistently through a corner than 4WD configs.
