|
|
I got my CK2 Lancer's driver side power window woes straightened out.
got the regulator replaced
I decided to lube the moving parts of the setup today
so I opened up the front doors, equipped with a can of Silicon Spray
I lubed the channels with the silicon spray, cuz that works great for the channels.
I also sprayed the runner (vertical pole that the plastic glass mount slides up\down along) with the silicon spray
but having observed the way the runner operates, I was thinking that it would be better to lube the runner with grease
the grease is for the runner only, NOT the channels.
is this a good idea?
if so, what grease do you suggest? _________________

Hotnutts,
you need to lubricate the channels.
with temperate climate, the rubber channels tend to suffer from weathering and don't really provide a smooth and frictionless environment for the glass on its way up or down
you can use Silicon spray lubricant. This is a semi-dry lubricant that does not dammage the polymer channels.
It is applied wet, but then dries to an almost dry solid ( fine particles actually)
I use Cyclo (orange can), pretty popular and does a good job. u can find it at almost any parts shop.
can't remember the price but it ent more than $40.00
here is what you do.
1. Start the car (cuz yuh gonna be sending the glass up and down a lot) doh wanna drain yuh battery.
2. send the windows all the way down
3. spray the silicon into the channels from the highest level (very top of the door frame).
4. allow the lubricant to run down the channel. This will happen fast cuz in the liquid form, the lubricant has a viscosity like water.
5. send up the glass slowly then send down the glass.
6. Repeat several times while moving the glass up\down. Once the silicon reach all the way down to the entire length of the channels, the glass should be moving easier.
Since you indicated that the glass was sticking real bad, you might want to remove the interior door upholstery and lube the channels lower down inside the doors.
In addition to lubing the channel where the thin edge of the glass is slideing on, you might want to lube the portions of the channel groove that the flat side of the glass is sliding along.
if lubing the channels does not work, then your regulator is probably dying. as in the case of my driver side door, had to replace the regulator.
the point of lubing is to extend the life of the regulator motor, cuz then it has less resistance in moving the glass up\down
