Good day all,

Recently, myself and another tuner have been having a light hearted discussion on how to make power on each of these two platforms.

We both agree to have alot to learn and with his permission opted to take the discussion here in an effort to learn some more from those of you willing to share ....

Background.....tuner came across my dyno chart and asked for some more info...

map as follows

subsequently, he had asked at what boost i was running...i sent one of the maps used to transition to the final map...note emphasis at this point was to smoothen the wastegate
Quote:

Please see image as a guide to map used - this was the 14th iteration of the map - the final being rom21 that presently outputs 285awp/255 ft-lbs tq - the 14th to 21st map being used to smoothen out wastegate

50/50 mix with a bit of power and safety tune - taking advantages of both with emphasis on safety. Have alot more potential still to be tapped

Haven't yet started to play around with the AVCS (Subaru's equivalent to MIVEC)

please feel free to ask any questions...

conversation that followed...

looks good, what programs do you guys use on Subbies?
I believe its ECUflash - was so long ago i can't remember...lol - but the underlying fumction is the same

i am on the 5th iteration of my map, i am getting some probs with the BCS i bought to replace the OEM BCS. this one offers boost control via the ECU by altering the WGDC. however i got it from the states and their evos only have one boost solenoid, JDM IXs have dual boost solenoids so i think the connections is wrong.

lots of troubles lol.

I hear you man...choice of EBCS had to be one of the most important for me as well - there were many warnings against some manufacturers and then of those left, some were easier to tune than others. I prefer the option u're chosing - control via ecu....

is there anyone who can help you trouble shoot the set-up - wish i knew more - i'd have gladly helped

i am hoping to make 280whp and matching torque at 23psi peak and taper to 21psi. no meth/water here so . and i utilised map switching for DD and having an aggressive map. the STI RA, what mods does it have (power adders)?
i only have a 3" TBE so i am milking that for power

Just a forged out bottom end, a 16G (evo turbo...yes you heard me...lol), 3" TBE and water/meth

BTW i am guessing this is rom tuning and not *edit* right???

correct @ rom tuning. *edit* .... A friend of mine has an RA with same mods as me just bigger injectors and ECUtek put out 325/260 whp/tq

do you tune or there is someone else?

a very good friend of mine but he's semi-retired now from it...

My take on tuning the ix - full TBE / water-meth / ebcs / larger injectors / upgraded fuel pump

IMHO - frees up the exhaust - you can add boost mildly with safety.
EVO platform starts with everything that majority of scooby upgrade to in order to make power - mitsu turbo / FMIC

Have a couple guys with stock long blocks, larger injectors and FMIC in the 310awhp range

lemee know if can help with anythn....would like to take this convo to mitsumadmen (zorce)...with ur permission

cheers

Please feel free to comment on what you'd do to make additional reliable power as well as critique any of the above comments and correct us as you see fit.

I'd really like to see a map and dyno for equivalent 4g63T and perhaps it may help us to understand each platform a little bit better

hmph - thank you for allowing me to take the convo here - i've edited some parts

What about using an ECU like Motec's plug'n play M800 series http://www.motec.com/pluginecus/pluginupgrade/

hmmm - very interesting point you've raised.

The stock ECU's in both cars are pretty decent and can net the user ~300awhp for the purpose of this discussion...
