Wazup with Evos? Looks like Mitsubishi is adding an "Evolution" model to most of their range.

This year we have the "real deal" and one of the best so far... the Evo IX.
The new Evo IX GSR (JDM)_______ = 289 bhp / 295 lb-ft.
The new Evo IX RS/GT (JDM)_____ = 289 bhp / 300 lb-ft.

Mitsubishi UK's derivative, the FQ series "pumps up the volume" significantly too.
Their Evo IX MR FQ300 = 305 bhp / 297 lb-ft.
Their Evo IX MR FQ320 = 326 bhp / 305 lb-ft.
Their Evo IX MR FQ340 = 345 bhp / 321 lb-ft.

In the good old JDM they have an Evo IX Wagon for 2005...

Coming in 2006 is the possibility of a 're-badged' Colt Evolution (?) based on the smaller
1.5 litre 3-door Colt putting out over 200 bhp. This hot-hatch is supposed to do
0-60 mph in a little over 4 seconds, and about 140 mph.

Soon to come in 2007 is the completely revised Evolution X, when they finally put the
venerable 4G63 out to pasture, and introduce a new GDI (MIVEC too?) turbo motor and
a new chassis simultaneously. (I hope they know what they are doing!)
Looks more like a Revolution rather than the more reliable Evolution that we've seen
over the years. But that "God-awful" styling!

What's next?... Enough already!...
We know Mitsubishi is loosing money, but make better low-end models to regain profitability.
Offer more high performance "meat" and less "flab" in the bread and butter ranges.

Yes... capitalize on the marketing advantage and offer one or two "Evolutionized" high-end
models in specific ranges, but don't "bastardize" the brand with "Evo-everything"!
All that will achieve is to water-down the "mystique" of their best model and loose their
marketing edge.

Comments and opinions please. Cool

I agree.

I rather prefer it when not everyone knows what an Evolution is...keeps the mystery-factor to the non-auto enthusiast...also keeps it unique.

ah hope they keep the flame burning...with the evolution..

but it looks like overkill to me...
they gotta reverse the desing for those new cars... seems each new model comes out a bit more worse that the last

I not too happy about them dropping the 4G63's . It's true that the GDI technology allows for economy with good torque throughout the powerbands but still.....dem know what they doing yes.......

i think they shoudl capitialise on the marketing that is the evolution name in order to build brand stability.. and bring out another branding for there leaner meaner versions so that the " evoultion" shoudl still rock the 4g63t and have a the new line up with the X being called like i dunno Lancer SSR or soemthign so with the bigger better badder mivec/gdi turbo set up.. that way u get back the opertunity to regain the mystic., it shows an new dynamic in terms of the company' profitabiliy via there marketign schemes and still maintanign the evoloution name as a verry viable marketing tool to keep the co. afloat by providign bargin performace with a name that is now verry well known
