Trident readying Iceni diesel supercar

Although �diesel� and �supercar� are rarely used in the same sentence, the UK�s Trident Performance Vehicles is working on a car that could make that rarity a common occurrence.



Dubbed the Iceni, Trident�s diesel-powered supercar uses a modified version of General Motors� Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V8. In Iceni guise, the oil burner is good for 550 horsepower and an earth-wrinkling 950 lb-ft of torque from a low 1,800 rpm.



That massive output combined with an eight-speed automatic gearbox means the Iceni is good for a sub-four second 0-60 run and a top speed in excess of 200 mph.

Despite its amazing performance, Trident says the Iceni will return more than 55 mpg! Talk about having your cake and eating it too.



But as with all good things, there is a catch. The Iceni isn�t quite ready for a market launch as Trident is still searching for more investors. But when the Iceni is ready to hit production, Trident predicts it will carry a price tag of �75,000. No word on if there are U.S. plans for the Iceni.
