oh thanks man.

i think the GSR box code i mentioned is the right one, i had asked my friend from New Zealand to check it out
and he went out in his garage and checked right there and then. he has a CM5A GSR, so i think it should be accurate.

Thanks for still keeping an eye out for me i really appreciate it. better sooner than later i convert to some
manual goodness. i'll even make a big "how-to" on the whole ordeal.

but i have a question. say i can source a used GSR box that wasn't workin' properly and the owner had it replaced,
is it possible to source parts to rebuild a box? i dunno like gears and bushings and synchros, and the shift fork maybe.

Yup, parts can be sourced from UK, Australia and Japan... but they may be expensive.
Our local Dealer never imported that model so I'll have to import parts.

More important... STRIP the box first. You may buy more headaches than you realise.
My GSR box needs bearings for sure. I found broken bearing cage when I drained oil.
ONE bearing damaged... so metal chips and filings now everywhere. Rolling Eyes
Sooo IMHO replace ALL bearings... + new synchromesh rings, shims, seals etc.

Don't need box right away and can't afford it now... BUT I'll need a hydraulic press to do it.
So then I'll have another DIY project to make one in order to rebuild the box. Rolling Eyes
As though I need something else to do. Laughing

My one was different, I think mine ended with something like ..hmmm can't remember, will have to go to
the garage and check it, but they can differ, this last 3 bits of the number tell you if it has LSD and the ratios

i found a gearbox in australia, $1000 AUD for the gearbox with the transfer case, and $1000 AUD to ship. WOW.

What do you guys think?

$2000 AUD = $13,500 TT at least... + Duty + 15% VAT.
Don't know what your Duty and VAT (if any) are but IMHO that price is WAY too high for me...
... and you still have to ADD the cost of pedal-box / clutch master & slave-cylinder etc. etc.

BTW here's a thought. Why not buy a pedal-box / clutch master & slave cylinder etc.
from a scrap yard in Grenada FIRST. Then, as 1.8 GSR parts are so hard to get, why not just
"Evolutionize." Buy a 4G63 (with ECU, harness etc.), gearbox, Brembos etc. Then sell 4G93
& trans
after you get ALL the other parts. Less "downtime" doing the conversion that way.

If anyone of you guys decide to rebuild the brembo calipers with some new seals, looks like Mitsubishi
charges to much for those kits and subaru wrx sti 02-05 kit should fit just fine, but is a lot cheaper!!!

Not too well...still searching for tyres and sizes and couple bolts to get suspension done, then have to service
those calipers and put suspensions on the car...but I'm very afraid that 8.5 rims will stick out as hell.....

^ ^ ^ Yup, they might. Maybe OEM 7.5" E5-E6 rims will work better with E4 suspension.

A local 2nr (the late Gerald Pegus) did similar GSR/E5 conversion.
He used E5 suspension and E7 rims... but didn't use E5-6 fenders or rear wheel-wells.
He had to jack the front and rear... and the front tyres still scrubbed.
Otherwise a very good conversion... but handling suffered and car still looked odd.

Hmm evo7 rims are 8inch wide, plus E5 suspension track is wider than e4, sooo I might be able to sort something out:)))))

My car has been parked up for about a month.. Sad

Front tires were badly worn and I had 17's + tires on order from the U.S. so I didn't wanna buy tires for the 16's on the car now.

Thankfully though I am clearing the rims+tires off the port tomorrow, so I'll be back on the road Midweek latest.

As for the Gearbox search, I've come up with absolute zilch, EVO conversion seems like the only logical way to go,
it's really too bad I do not have the time or money to put into that conversion right now, maybe next year, who knows.

I once found a complete EVO5 engine w/gearbox, harness/ECU, shifter console, cables, pedals, cylinders, transfer case, driveshaft,
EVERYTHING, on Ebay for roughly $3,000 - $3,500 USD, if I had the money then I would have swooped up that deal in a heartbeat.

All for now I think I am just gonna enjoy my car and drive it everyday like I usually do
(and cross my fingers behind my back for a gearbox to drop onto my doorstep).

Sanctifier, have you made headway on anyone of your projects?

Nipe, what's your status?, any update pics? Smile

I'll post some pics of the car with the new rims when I put them on.

Rims look good, luvnish. Glad to see that you're back on the road... LUCKY YOU!

ToyRoom coming along slowly but surely at last. I fired the 1st so-called "contractor."
New guy was foreman on a new house built next door and finished two months ago.
He's a bit pricey but VERY good. Finally some light at the end of the tunnel! Smile

I'll post some "before" and "during" pix later. Hopefully just about a month more to go
on ToyRoom. Then there's my wife's commercial catering kitchen to finish. Cool

1st off after all that is getting the E6 RS2 back on the road as a "daily driver" until
the "E6 GT Clone" is finished. I saw another white E6 TME with white E7 rims last week...
Seeing it was almost as good as sex! GOD... I MISS MY CAR Exclamation
