Thanks (for the help) but no thanks (for the adoption) Rory. Laughing ... but feel free
to visit after its finished. Just call me at 684-4552 (C) / 633-4552 (H.)

do you intend to use it also for some commercial work?... Nope, not really. I'll help a few friends but
it's for private use. TOO MUCH to do for the next few years to take on jobs. (See below! Rolling Eyes )

I'm tired of working in chaos... with inadequate tools & equipment. Done that all my life.
All this is just for FUN!... To make life easier and jobs quicker, hopefully of higher quality too.

Also interested in machine work. One day I'll replace Dad's lathe and add a milling machine.
ToyRoom details here. Link--> THE ASYLUM!... Workshops & Tools for DIY MadMen.

The 3 project cars (E6 Clone, E6 & rwd GSR) will take me YEARS to complete part-time.

I've always wanted to do a full upgrade & restoration on the rwd GSR.
BTW many parts (& alternatives) mentioned below are already available... Smile

ENGINE ..................: Mitsubishi 2.0 DOHC 4G63 (Gen 1) OR SOHC G63BT + 5-speed box...

BRAKES .................: Evo 6 Brembos (4-pot ft. & 2-pot rr.) with 17" OZ Racing rims off E6.

FRONT SUSPENSION: Swap rwd GSR's power steering box for steering rack
............................. : (Power rack from 4wd 1800 GSR OR Manual rack from Vauxhall Viva.)

REAR SUSPENSION .: I.R.S. from 2.0 Galant Turbo (using standard arches.)
............................. : OR from 4wd 1800 GSR (with arches like '80s Escort RS2000 XPak)
(Arches are needed because 4wd rear suspension is about 6" WIDER than rwd GSR axle.)
............ Clicky on pix...
It's DIFFERENT but IMHO "boxy" arches like the XPak Escort suit the "square" lines of the
"narrow" rwd Lancer GSR better than huge RalliArt "eyebrow" arches... COMMENTS PLEASE!

............ Clicky on pix... ......
Wider ft. & rr. track will improve handling significantly too... COMMENTS PLEASE!

BODYWORK & PAINT: I want to try my hand at bodywork & custom paint job... DIY EVERYTHING!
I already have these... ...
............ Clicky on pix... HVLP Turbine System ... and ... Supply-Air Respirator...
and some air-tools for bodywork. More to come soon.

BTW I want to try to de-rust rwd Lancer shell first in a tank of washing soda using electrolysis.
Should be interesting. Wink

I'm also working VERY hard towards a new business "startup" within the next 18-24 months.

FUTURE TOY: 7(?) years after startup, I want a used 38'-42' boat... "deep-V" /
sleeping 3 couples / twin turbo-diesels / with all the bells and whistles...

That's going to cost $$$ so gotta start working and saving for it SOON!

All that (plus Solodex etc.) should keep me out of mischief for the next 15-20 years or so. Laughing

IMHO the only way to really make all this hard work FUN is to share info and advice.
Hopefully we can use this forum as a TECH ARCHIVE that we all have quick access to for help.

I'm just trying to build my projects properly. That's more fun than building my ego IMHO.
Too many "Super Egos" and aggression on too many forums these days. I'm here to learn the
right way to do things. Just prove me wrong first and then I'm more than willing to change
my opinion. If I don't know about something... I'll say so.

Anyway, back to cars. AFAIK one or two prototype "works" Lancer Turbos were fitted with IRS
by Mitsubishi RalliArt in the VERY early days. I have two spare IRS systems, so I want to try it.

The ex-Galant IRS neeeds a COMPLETE rebuild (with imported Starion parts)...
The ex-4wd GSR IRS is in good condition with spare floor-pan but is 6" wider; so arches needed.
Which IRS would you suggest... and What's your opinion on the style of arches to use?

My $0.02

Ok, just yesterday I got myself complete rear suspension out of evo4, front hubs of evo4 and
will be getting front arms off evo4 tomorrow too, soooo brake upgrade is not too far away,
BUT before I do anything can anyone confirm my suspision? I suspect that rear suspension
bolting points are different on gsr and evo4...can anyone confirm that?

^ ^ ^ Remember to get the REAR BRACKETS for the upper A-arms off the E4.
They bolt to the chassis and the rear upper arms are bolted to them. Can't remember all
the specific details but AFAIK with the brackets, E4 suspension should bolt into the GSR shell.

With the front I decided to just go evo4 hub carriers with evo4 a arms and evo4 swaybar,
but with the back I still got no idea what my options are...

E4 has 2-pot ft. calipers. Don't you need the E7 caliper bracket etc. to bolt on the Brembos?

The awesome thing is: brembo calipers fit straight to evo4 hub carriers!!!
With no adapter plates needed whatsoever! Good thing Sanctifier that you told me about the
brackets, I'll go take them off the guy who sold me the rear suspension Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

When I went to see the guy about rear arm brackets, he said they were welded to the chassis,
which to be honest is a load of bull****, so i went and bought them of other guys, so now
i have complete setup, aprt from brembo brake booster, but I think I'll stick with mine for
now and see what happens:) Soon to be confirmed: does the gsr diff bolt on to rear evo
subframe? - we will see very very soon Twisted Evil

Yup B/S. Can't see the point of keeping them if he already sold you the suspension? Rolling Eyes

1.8 GSR master cylinder's pistons are sized for single-pot ft. & rr. calipers.
IMHO you might get better pedal travel & feel using E5/E6 master cylinder with Brembos.
nipe wrote:

1.8 GSR/E3/E4 share the same diff housing and helical LSD. Ratios may differ.
GSR diff support member is spot-welded, pressed steel. E3 is unknown.
E4 diff support member is steel. E6 RS member is alloy. E4 and E6 don't look interchangeable.

Also I don't know if GSR/E4 diff housing bolts to E5/E6 diff support arm.

Let us know what parts are "swappable." Thanks.
BTW nipe you haven't given an opinion on XPak arches on rwd Lancer GSR... luvnish?

Hey guys I have a question.

What makes a FWD gearbox different from an AWD gearbox? Is it the transfer case?
OR is the gearbox itself different?

What I'm saying is, say I were to get a gearbox off of a MR Mivec Lancer (FWD) and unbolt
whatever diff or transfer case is on it, and put on an AWD transfer case from my GSR,
is that sposed to work?

The number you got is for all 4wd lancers of that era (gsr, evo4,5,6), you need last digits
