Formula One double world champion Fernando Alonso has ruled himself in with a chance at team Ferrari with suggestions that Felipe Massa is making too many mistakes on the track, and is thus at risk of losing his contract with the F1 champions. Rumours have been flying about of Alonso having a pre-contract with Ferrari for 2010, possibly even earlier.

Speaking after Sundays race in Malaysia, Alonso said to newspaper Diario AS: "It is too early to talk about team transfers, but Massa has had two bad races with errors and it is logical that people are talking about Vettel and me."

Alonso was referring to Massas spin in Australia as well as his inexplicable rear-to-front that cost him a podium this past Sunday. It is possible that the young Brazilian is struggling to handle a 700+ bhp car with no traction control. Should this be the case then his European races could spell slippery trouble when the rainy season begins.

Alonso did admit though, that being the best car was a major focus for his racing. "I always want to be in the best car in the field. I am driving for Renault now because I won here in 2005 and 2006 and want to do it again, if not this year, then the next. It is clear that Ferrari has one of the best cars already".

Jumping around from team to team does not necessarily yield championships. Conversely, sticking with a team that has no hope achieves the same thing, witness Villeneuve's demise with BAR (should have stuck it out with them until they got the BMW engines).

Renault knows how to win championships. Renault will also pander to his ego of having #1 status. How is he going to achieve that if Raikonnen is still with Ferrari.

Ferrari will not sign him if Kimi is performing
It was proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that you cannot win titles by having two world champion drivers

When was this? Are you referring to the arrogance (and ignorance) of certain drivers that become more prominent when they win a champsionhip?

1989 was the last year when a team had 2 world championship drivers, Prost (1985 and 1986) and Senna (1988), driving for them the same year. That was McLaren and they won both the constructor's and driver's championships that year. I agree that it was not pretty that year, but Senna thought that because God was his co-pilot, that he could do no wrong. I don't give Prost wrong for what he did at Suzuka given the type of treatment Senna belted out to him before, especially at Portugal in 1988.

Before that was 1986 when McLaren had Rosberg (1982) and Prost (1985) driving for them and there were no fireworks between them that year as far as I can remember. McLaren only won the driver's championship that year and that win was somewhat lucky.

Prost and Mansell never drove together when they had both won world champsionhips, and the same can be said for Mansell and Piquet, Senna and D. Hill, Prost and D. Hill, Prost and Lauda, and Villeneuve and D. Hill.

If you go even further before that with Hulme and Fittipaldi (McLaren 1974), Clark and G. Hill (Lotus 1968), their antics were nowhere close to what goes on now. In fact, Clark and G. Hill were locked up in a jail (with a bottle of alcohol to help pass time) in South Africa together for a night for some foolishness.

Senna and Prost
a management nightmare
I think it is now the common convention that you need a star and a supporting driver...........a lot of Schumacher's success was linked to Rubens........
