The history of the Alpina D3 begun in 2006 at the Geneva motor Show and since then the tuning company sold 850 units. Not this successful story will go on with the D3 Biturbo, a tuning kit based on the current 3-series.
The D3 Biturbo is powered by a bi-turbocharged version of the two-liters diesel engine found on the BMW 123d. The turbochargers now help the engine to develop a power of 214 hp and a peak torque of 450 Nm. This means a high performance of 107 hp per liter engine capacity.
An alternative to the standard six-speed manual gearbox is a sequential automatic gearbox called "Switchtronic". The performance of both variants are the same: the acceleration to 100 km/h occurs in 6.9 seconds, and the top speed is 244 km/h. According to Alpina, the average consumption of the D3 bi-turbo, depending on the gearbox, is between 5.4 and 5.6 liters.
The D3 Bi-turbo is being offered with the initial bars, a front spoiler, floor mats, an exhaust system, sport suspension, and the typical instruments with a blue background and the Alpina alloy rims in classical design.
