OOps! I accidentally changed the permissions on my external drive?!! I can't access it or change it back!!! ARGH!!
Sounds familiar? Well I was hit by this problem recently, I first heard that the best thing to do was mount the drive to another mac and go into disk utility and change permissions... well that didn't work for me..
I ended up having to go into the program "Terminal" (applications/utilities) and manually enter the permissions..
Be really cautious about Terminal if you don't use it much.. Copy exactly as is.. So the name of my drive was "Porsche" (naturally ..hehehe) so here's what I did..
1. Open Terminal
2. Enter the all of the following code and hit Return key:
sudo chmod -R u+X "/Volumes/Porsche"
ls -l /Volumes
echo "done"
3. I have a password set on my machine for entry at that point i was asked to enter the password..
4. Restart the machine
At this point the drive finally showed up on the desktop. The permission was still no access however, I was able to go into "Get info" and change the permissions on the drive. Restart the computer one more time and the drive showed up as normal!!
WHEW!!!!!!! My music is back and the 160GB of other things i had.. Did I mention I'm so excited!!

PROBLEMS PRINTING FROM FIREFOX
Regardless of the OS, sometimes giving a little 'kick' to the printer settings in Firefox 'fixes' some of these problems:
type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
Preference name = print.print_printer
Right-Click that preference and select Reset, then restart Firefox.
If you get this warning dialog:
"Printing failed when starting the document"
and when you do this:
type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
Preference name = print.print_printer = no printer shown:
Either you don't have a printer selected, or Firefox doesn't know it is installed on your system.
If you are having a problem with Firefox not printing to paper at all, and you don't receive a warning dialog:
Do {Ctrl + P} and
1. Make sure that you don't have Print to file selected under Printer > Commment:
2. Make sure that your correct printer is selected at Printer > Name:. (You might be "printing" to a Program such as Adobe PDF or Intuit.)
If you are having a problem with Firefox printing only on a small portion of the page:
Do {Ctrl + P} and verify the correct Printer is selected, then hit the Properties button and look at the Paper tab and Layout tab (or whatever your particular printer brand calls those prefs):
Paper =>
is the correct size selected? (usually 8.5"x11" or A4)
is the Orientation correct?
is the Printable Area correct?
Layout =>
is Reduce/Enlarge check-marked? = shouldn't be
is Multi-Page check-marked? = shouldn't be unless that is what you want
Delayed printing or Firefox freezes when trying to print
Check your printer Properties > Advanced section to make sure that print spooling is turned on. _________________ Mowgli : "Use the Zorce Princess Kaveshla!"...

When the Dock freezes/is erratic:
Some users recommend:
Remove and Trash the plist com.apple.dock.plist from ~/Library/Preferences
I've tried this and the problem usually comes back
This one worked really well!
Start Terminal
at the prompt type: killall Dock
This will restart the dock and return everything to normal _________________ Drags, Circuit, Solodex, Rally, Karting, the Shows, the Girls, the Car you drive...

MAC KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS
Learn about common Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts. A keyboard shortcut is a way to invoke a function in Mac OS X by pressing a combination of keys on your keyboard.
Products Affected
Mac OS X 10.0, Mac OS X 10.3, Mac OS X 10.2, Mac OS X 10.1, Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.6, Mac OS X 10.5
To use a keyboard shortcut, or key combination, you press a modifier key with a character key. For example, pressing the Command key (the key with a symbol) and the "c" key at the same time copies whatever is currently selected (text, graphics, and so forth) into the Clipboard. This is also known as the Command-C key combination (or keyboard shortcut).
A modifier key is a part of many key combinations. A modifier key alters the way other keystrokes or mouse clicks are interpreted by Mac OS X. Modifier keys include: Command, Control, Option, Shift, Caps Lock, and the fn key (if your keyboard has a fn key).
Startup keyboard shortcuts
Press the key or key combination until the expected function occurs/appears (for example, hold Option during startup until Startup Manager appears, or Shift until "Safe Boot" appears). Tip: If a startup function doesn't work and you use a third-party keyboard, connect an Apple keyboard and try again.
