Okay, the Evo X is here Exclamation ... Shocked ... Twisted Evil ... Mad ... Cool ... Rolling Eyes
The Motoring Press and the uninitiated have hailed it as the new Holy Grail!...
In a nutshell, their feedback seems to be...
Quote:
Nice ride!... Fantastic handling!... Pretty good appearance...
Evo X is here... Forget the SLOWER acceleration, better days are coming!

... but the FANS!... the "Die Hard" Evo supporters have received it with mixed reviews...
Quote:
Pretty good... Too fat and HEAVY!... AWFUL styling!... Room for improvement...
Could be more aggressive looking... Great handling!... More power please!...

On average the overall consensus of the BUYING public, the ones who REALLY matter,
seems to be...
Quote:
"Good"... but not yet "Great!"... Not quite enough "Evo" for the money yet!

Sooo... What can Mitsubishi do to improve the Evo X Question
Maybe Mitsu should be ..."Thinking outside the (X) Box!"

Here's your chance to tell us what you would do to improve the new Evo X to suit you...
I'll start the ball rolling with my $0.02 about what a revised Evo X should be like...
Quote:
IMHO "Dr. Evo" at Mitsubishi R&D dropped the ball this time. They should have been working
on a production version of their "Dakar" Active Suspension for the Evo X.
Both Mitsubishi (and Citroen) have "Kinetic" Active Suspension licensed for almost five years
... and look at what a killer the Xara was in the WRC Exclamation
"Kinetic" A/S made Citroen Xara and Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution invincible for three consecutive years.

Link--> Mitsubishi Roll Control: Best Suspension Design In 25 Years!

Both vehicles were so far ahead of their time that "Active Suspension" was banned by the WRC.
... but does Mitsubishi reap the benefit of their "engineering coupe" for their flagship Evo?
... Nope!... Instead the S-AWC comes out as a "kindergarden" variety of the real thing.

Doesn't Mitsubishi need another MotorSport Icon?... Doesn't Mitsubishi want to sell more cars?
It's the SAME question!... If so, then a BIG dose of PERFORMANCE!... and PIZZAZ! will help.

Here's my version of an Evo X RS2 "Special Edition" for 2nrs; as a 3-door hatch not a Coupe.

Quote:
Make it a 3-door hatch (like Subaru WRX STi) to save weight... and to make it stiffer.
A Concept car is already available. Might look better than the "fat cat" Executive saloon too.

Make the doors, hatch, wing and skirts from carbon fibre.
Make front and rear bumpers from deformable plastic for minor damage resistance.
(Front fenders, bonnet and roof are already aluminium.)
Use "thin walled" alloy inner crash beams in bumpers and doors with expanded urethane foam
for extra stiffness... Just like the OEM Lancer Cedia shell.

Use a revised FP EvoGREEN turbo for the 4B11T and find at least 415 WTQ and 385 WHP.
That is available right now for the older 4G63... and is TOTALLY reliable for the street.

Use production version of Active Suspension from Pajero Evolution ADDED to S-AWC.

Use 5-speed box. So much torque makes 6-speed irrelevant, saving even more weight! Wink

Now, with viable alternatives for both niche markets; Mitsubishi can leave the Evo X MR as
a 4-door saloon. Just forget about the "carbon" bits and add LUXURY OPTIONS to the MR.
Quote:
... 6-speed "semi-auto" for "up market" buyers... Leather... GPS...
custom multi-media options... custom paint options etc.

There!... You still have room to "evolve" but it's much closer to true Evo performance IMHO.
Also it will be impossible for 2008 Skyline (450 bhp / 370 lb-ft) to upstage this RS2 "SE". Twisted Evil
Yup! RS2 SE. Yet another Evo that could be a "Porsche [and Skyline] eater" on a budget!

Now... What's your $0.02 Question ...
Your votes and comments added to this thread will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Mitsubishi needs to learn from Lotus. Light weight and good suspension tuning (not
necessarily active suspension). Ditch the current body style and go with a 3 door hatch.

Get rid of the power windows, power mirrors and power locks. Personally, the only
luxuries I need in a car, if being driven in T&T, are air-conditioning and a radio/CD player.
With a 3 door hatch, it is also not that far a stretch to the passenger side if you need to
do anything on that side.

Full active suspension will just escalate the cost of the car and would the benefits really
"outweigh" the costs? Perhaps a compromise like magneto rheological dampers could be
considered, but still not really necessary if you can reduce the weight.

Sanc...before touting the FP green turbo for the car..wait till companies get their hands on it.

AMS is already saying they are impressed with the car and its not all HYPE...
heck they made 87 more whp with a few bolt ons and no tune.
Catback,
Cat Delete
22psi boost tappering to 16psi
Front mount with piping
Intake piping

the car right now is close to 400whp at the crank.

You all complaining that the car is too fat and heavy, yet all reports are pointing to the car
being more nible and agile. Mitsubishi at the end of the day is in it for the profits...
the X is intended to appeal to the larger masses. The X has the most creature comforts
packed in than any other evo. Which becomes more attractive for me when i consider the kind
of driving conditions I have in Dominica. The car is new..stop throwing judgement on it too soon

As for a porshe and skyline eater..let the evo remain focused on what it is.

Bring a different platform for those other cars.

You misunderstood. I meant a turbo with similar characteristics...
47 lb/min~700cfm flow etc. etc. Not necessarily that particular model.
Just enough to get the torque/power required.
scientist wrote:

Yup it is! Thank God! At least it is a good base for future upgrade.
Handling is ALWAYS the most important issue for me.

Again my friend, it's simply a case of...
Quote:
"Good"... but not yet "Great!"... Not quite enough "Evo" for the money yet!

IMHO it's a good car... just needs more POWER! and PIZZAZZ! if Mitsubishi want to
"go head-to-head"
with BMW and Audi.

My $0.02¢... and thanks for the replies. Very Happy

Yup!... That's EXACTLY what I'm suggesting. Very Happy
Evo X MR... 4-door saloon with the "works"... ALL luxury options AND a bit more power and
torque. At least enough to be a bit better than older Evos...
There's your BMW M3/5 and Audi competitor... Wink

NOW bring on the Evo X RS2 "Special Edition"... or similar. There's your
Porsche GT and Skyline-eater... There's your Performance Icon! Everybody happy! Very Happy

Don't know about 2nrs as a general rule... but to me an Evo is just a GREAT base to tweek
into a Porsche GT and Skyline-eater. Pay less than 20% of their price for a
used Evo and STILL give them a CUTAZZ! That's how I get my fun.
For luxury... A/C, a "quiet" car and reasonable music is all I want.
Never was too interested in keeping it "just like OEM."

Good Conversation....

I've seen the "USDM Evo X" at the houston autoshow in person and to be honest...its a lancer with flares. With that, its agressive lines are really in its badging and interior...I think you will have to look twice to make sure its an EVOX...and not a 08/09 Lancer Ralliart Sport Package (with aftermarket naca ducts)

Performance matches the drivers taste, I know evo drivers that still bone stock..and they HAPPY, I know others that don't know what else to do. The aftermarket industry aint going nowhere!

This new incarnation is lacking the bloodline if you ask me.....Its almost a GRAFTED EVO...rather than a homologated Lancer Evolution.

Its all about style with these cars, performance is UNDERSTOOD and up to your taste. Aftermarket Styling on performance Japanese Cars is RICE IMHO.....European Aftermarket Styling is pure class! (AC Schnitzer, Ruf).

Remember heritage has a lot to do with Lancer's Evo's, a Heritage its seems they have forgotten!....RALLY!

Subaru has not forgotton this (yeah here we go with this subaru vs evo talk) and have stuck behind their WRC Cars.....which they homologated from their ROAD CAR...and I mean...the new STi is sooooo Sexy! (waiting for flame)

I love my TME because of its Bloodline...this car was built when Mitsubishi ruled Rally!!....If I had another choice of machine right now I would get a (waiting for flame) Subaru 22B or a Prodrive P1...heritage!....better yet I'll take a Ford Escort MK2.

But the man who was honoured by Mitsubishi with the TME has gone Subaru!!!

Before I bought my 335i (boy racer grows up) I was going for an STi....yes I admit it.

I guess you see where my vote went!

well the Lancer Evolution has always been a Lancer with a body kit in terms of looks. SO they have kept to their formula

The Rally car hit before the GSR and MR models came out. Remember mitsu has always been a competitor in PWRC..which they still dominate to this day. the Evo X has already began rally campaigns.

WRC cars aren't Homologated to street cars anymore, its no longer a requirement. Its only those who participate in PWRC who continue to do so, Hence why the evo line has kept with the 2L motor.

A lot of Euro addons are Rice in my oppinion too. Alot of them are tasteless and jus over the top.

Nice... NICE! We haven't had a decent discussion like this in a long time.

BTW Zandolie I can't see any reason for flames in what you said at all.
I have no shares in any car company. Crazy about Mitsubishi but I like cars... not just one OEM.
I said that Subaru might have the edge this year... and I love the last 2007/8 STi Spec C ('R' ?).
The one with 18" rims, 6-pot front & 4-pot rear Brembos... and very little understeer. Cool

scientist you are reading MY opinions factually and almost in a proof reading mentallity; lets keep this as a discussion of opinions rather than correction....

scientist wrote:

and wasn't it agressive and attractive in its early years? ...or was it our generation (assuming your age) had a concept of "sports car" being 2 door with pop up lights...and the sedan was this radical twist!...now its no longer radical because Sports car is your mom's Liana!

scientist wrote:

The Evo X is still Car 0 at events...PWRC is exactly that Privateers not Manufacturers!

scientist wrote:

I guess they shouldv'e remained that way! Laughing ..the Evo X hurting!

scientist wrote:

Peugeots for sure! Wink

You say :
scientist wrote:

So What IS it in your opinion?

and let meh start you off....

I think like all "icon" Japanese Production Sports Cars of the late 90's early 2000's....the "EVO" has fallen prey it has been designed with the American Market/investors on the table. Where as before the JDM market had purpose; Gymkana, Drift, touge, Wangan....

Catch my drift (no pun)

So am I, to be honest before I bought my DC5 Type-R I was going to buy an STi!...Thank goodness I didn't...because they started importing the Boobaroo varients a year later. I've had a spectrum of Manufacturers over the last 8 years;
TOYOTA EP82 Turbo Starlet (detuned and given to wife)
VW MKIV Golf GTi (stage II)
HONDA DC5 Integra Type-R (230WHP)
MITSUBISHI TME E6 (the lover)
TOYOTA HILUX 2.7VVTi (Gas)
BMW 335i Sedan (the brute)

I think as Evolution Owners we look forward to the next increment...and we scrutinize and somehow compare what we own.... Laughing

I didn't like the VII when it was revealed...but I LOVE the IX which came from the same mould as the VII Laughing

The X...Where that come from breds??

I think i have an idea where the X came from Twisted Evil Somebody at mitsu rear must be hurting right now cause thats where he pulled it from.

Car styling trends have changed dramatically from the first time i fell inlove with cars to now. I wouldn't say its a generation thing because my all time favourites are cars around way before i was born. I love the starion, i Love the old Datsun Zs, I own of my favourites the first gen VR4, my favourite evo is the 3.

All these racing disciplines at those levels jus baffles me every year when they change the rules soo much, I mean look how many companies campaign WRC now...most can't even afford a full season anymore. Its no longer a display of what the companies cars are capable of, but who has the biggest budget to build one off cars and technologies. even up to the evo 7...the cars were almost cars we can go out and own or create because they still had to retain factory parts on a lot of components.

I guess i'm kinda waiting to see how the whole new chassis pans out b4 i really start forming my oppinion on it.

magneto rheological dampers... Rory can you explain this to us please?

Active Suspension: Unfortunately I can't agree here. Active Suspension has be such a proven
technological advantage that not using it is a mistake IMHO.
Mitsubishi has built their reputation on electronic handling aids that "work."
To have A/S technology and not impliment it doesn't seem logical.
It's a bigger step forward than the "paddle-shifter" semi-auto being developed.

Just think. Changing gears faster?... or being able to REVERSE the laws of Physics
ON EVERY CORNER! To actually "bank into the corner" like a motorbike... (or at least
to cancel the effect of body-roll)
... balancing the normal forces that tend to cause abnormal
handling characteristics like "understeer", "oversteer", "squat or dive under braking" etc. etc.

Seems more worthwhile for driver safety and competitive use than a paddle shifter to me...
