The Swedish Touring Car Championship Peugeot team IPS Motorsport are working hard on getting the 308-model ready for 2008. This year the team ran the Peugeot 407 that has been in service since 2005. The team is expected to announce their plans before christmas.
"That is the only alternative in my eyes. The 308 is a much more compact car compared to the 407 and it would have suited Peugeot well to run the car as they are launching the new model now," said driver Johan Stureson to STCC.se.
The team with team manager, and father to Johan, Per Stureson is working hard to get the right conditions to build the new car in S2000 spec'.
"We have done a lot of research and have been in contact with all suppliers that we need to start building the car. But we have not finished everything in the budget to push the start button," said Stureson.
The team estimates that they need around three months to complete the car, hence the short time limit to start building the car.
"We have said that the decision will come some time next week. We are working on the base that we will build a new car, that is the only way for us," continued Stureson.
When the team launched the 407 in 2005 they finished third in the championship, and the team is aiming high if they get the 308 on the grid.
"I don't think you should see the first season as a learning year. We have a lot of experience and can bring over a lot of stuff from the development work with the 407. If we just can start the job and do some tests outside Sweden we guaranteed have good conditions to perform well in the championship," said Stureson.
