Okay... haven't posted any new articles for awhile; so here's the best one for the year so far...
The Evo Files - VI Meets IX...&... Finding Evo X - SCC Sept 07

Here's what happens when the bug bites... and I should know a little bit about that... Rolling Eyes

Imagine what they would say if they were driving a "real" Evo 6 Tommi RS...
Tommi RS steering (at 2.1 turns 'lock-to-lock') is even sharper than the US Evo 9 MR.

And handling??? E6 RS has a lower centre of gravity than Evo 7-9 and is 2" lower overall.
More than 300 lb lighter and better optimised spring-shock rates than an Evo 6 GSR...
You be the Judge!

Just look at the Fifth Gear video again... Link--> Evo 9 vs Evo 6 Track Test!
About 1/2-second faster per lap... with less roll, "tighter" handling and better brakes...
... in an older, less powerful (E6=300 bhp vs FQ320=326 bhp) car???... 'Nuff said! Cool

^ ^ ^ Now what did I do Question ... Laughing Laughing

But for the 2nr on a buget (aren't we all?), maybe the best "bang-for-the-buck" is
a CHEAPER Evo 6 with the following "DIY econo-mods"... (You saw that saying here first!) Laughing

Sanctifier wrote:
CHASSIS-STIFFNESS: One of the main arguments put forward for the superiority of an
Evo 7-9 chassis. Mitsubishi even uses the same marketing strategy for the new Evo X.
WRONG!... You want a stiffer chassis?... Can't afford or don't want an unsafe roll-cage for
street use? Then use FOAMSEAL in the chassis-rails, rocker panels and "A", "B" and "C"
pillars... if not already done by the factory... (some Evo 6s have it.)
DIY FOAMSEAL upgrade is a cost-effective chassis-stiffening upgrade that anyone can do.

Want more... Then gut and stitch-weld the chassis (or at least inside the engine-bay...
AND suspension mounting-points)
before a paint job or before an engine rebuild.
No Evo 7-9 or even Evo X is stiffer than that... It's relatively cheap and a DIY Project too.

Another argument is STEERING... Evo 6 RS has the quickest, most precise steering that
Mitsubishi ever made... Much better than Evo 8 or 9 GSRs.

More Tips:
Sanctifier wrote:
The money saved on older Evo 6... can allow better engine upgrade...
Idea Think EvoGREEN turbo, Buschur Throttle Body, better clutch kit and HKS 272 cams or similar...
Bigger Intercooler is NOT needed right now. Evo 6s have I/C Spray systems... E7 GSRs don't!
If you must upgrade use an E7-E9 I/C. It's bigger and much cheaper. Use their I/C pipes too.

The money saved on coil-over suspension upgrades... can allow for better tyres...
wider rims... or even some Whiteline stabilizer bars and "poly" bushings later on.

With the initial advantages of...
Sanctifier wrote:
CHEAPER PRICE... Now you can afford turbo and rim/tyre upgrades.
LIGHTER WEIGHT... better handling "out-of-the-box"... SHORTER stopping too.
LOWER CENTRE OF GRAVITY and BETTER OEM SPRING/SHOCK VALVING...
Did I mention CHEAPER suspension upgrades and better handling already???

2nrs can now afford to build better balanced daily drivers that are also competitive for Solodex.

obeiron at the end of the day you have spent about the same money as a newer Evo 8...
BUT you'll be able to "rest some serious CUTAZZ" on them... ALL THE TIME!...
Oh... You'll be able to CORNER... and STOP better than ALL of them too.
A better "all-round" daily driver for roughly the same money Question ... Works for me Exclamation

My $0.02 Wink

Sanctifier, great points as usual. Personally, I have always liked the 8 and I have my mind
set on getting an 8 mr. I think that is less of a headache than trying to find a good 6 and
finding someone to do the upgrades properly.

Hi Bullet... I stand corrected. A later OEM model did eliminate the I/C Spray system.
Now I'm not sure which model. (US Evo 8 maybe?) I'll have to check.

Yup much easier... but easier may not be better in the long run...
EvoGREEN can give you 385-400 WHP on pump gas... plus at least 400 WTQ! Cool

Idea While we're talking about "DIY econo-mods" for the Evo 6 (or ANY Evo.)
Instead of buying a larger Intercooler immediately... buy a good Water/ Methanol kit FIRST...
Much more bang-for-the-buck than a bigger Intercooler can give you IMHO.
So... more torque... more power... and lower exhaust gas temperatures too.
