Sanctifier whats up ,im lookin to install an evo 1-3 engine in my cyborg . im presently running an 1800gsr engine on a mivec g/box fwd.my question is can this g/box mate to an evo engine? can it take the strain? This would make things very simple, if this can't work where can I get a fwd gear box for this evo engine?
Thanks Devi

No problem. Post some pix of Project FWD Evo when you can. _________________ Walk softly... and carry a BIG stick! |

Devi, just remember to lock the spline so all the power will go to the front. _________________

^ ^ ^ Padna can you give us some more details?
That way other 2nrs going that way will avoid making mistakes.
Thanks. _________________ Walk softly... and carry a BIG stick! |

Well Actually I'm now believeing that is isn' t a good idea to run the 4wd box locked or free... especialy after about 3 or 4 guys here have recently suffered gearbox failures.
Apparently some friends of mine have just taken down 2 W5M33 boxes (evo and Gsr) they are saying the spider gear seems to be tearing itself to shreds, and they believe that it is actually "over" spinning, and cocluded that even if you lock the box or not, once you don't have it connected 4wd , you will be running it on borrowed time....
Based on some of the other sites, they use a locking spline componenent

Exactly how were these boxes locked?
And Sanctifier, please dont point to your possible AWD to FWD conversion
unless that's how they did it.
Thanks. |

Didn't intend to, padna. Read my post above again.
"Locking mechanism" was mentioned here nearly 18 months after my 4wd-to-2wd suggestion.
Time marches on... and 2nr info as well. Always looking for 100% accurate feedback.
That's why I asked MISHI for more specific details... _________________ Walk softly... and carry a BIG stick! |

[OEM Evos are 7" (E5-6), and 8" (E7-8 )]
Hey Sanctifier, Looking at your info on wheel sizes for the E5-6 & E7-8, I have seen conflicting information on different websites.
Can you verify the E5-6 wheels are definitely 7.5" wide ? Can you also tell me what the offset on these wheel are ?
I am using 17x8" wheels with +36 offset to clear my Evo Brembo calipers & my front tires rub on the fender.
I am hoping if the Evo 5-6 wheels are 7.5" wide they will clear the calipers & retract by .5" or so (depending on the offset), thereby fixing my rubbing problem.
Need this info before looking for used Evo 5-6 wheels.
Thanks. |

What model Evo is it? If it's not an Evo, maybe "rolling" the fender will work.
If it's an E5-6 then something else is wrong because TREX has an E6 RS2 like mine
and runs E7 8" rims with no issues. I tried 2 sets of rims on E6. OEM OZ - E6 RS2 and OEM
Enkei - E6.5 TME. Both = 17" x 71/2" (Confirmed!)
Offset: The Enkei on-line catalogue no longer lists ES-Tarmac rim in 17" size. I'll check later.
IMHO not a good idea to play around with non OEM-spec offsets without prior experience.
Even used Evo rims are expensive. Also it may cause negative steering characteristics.
BTW looking for TWO E6 TME rims. If you find an incomplete set let me know.

Thanks for the response.
It's not an Evo, it's a VR4. Rolling the fenders are an option, I may have to resort to that. I am pretty sure a 17x7.5" wheel with an offset of +38 to +40 will work for me. |

AFAIK yes you can. That's similar to what Marc Pogson did a couple years ago.
You'll need to use the appropriate bell-housing for the engine being used...
GSR bell-housing for 4G93... Evo bell-housing for 4G63. This might help...
Sanctifier wrote: | Chief guru for this upgrade is Marc Pogsen of ("Evo 7-into-GSR") fame.
Marc did a E7 4G63-into-CM5A transplant, with E5/GSR drivetrain mix and tried other swaps...
Gearbox & Transfer Case -
All Evo and GSR transfer cases swap around, as long as doner has engine on same side.
So GSR (CM5A) case works with E4-9(?) "5-speed" box... use GSR rear diff with it.
Front and Rear gear-ratios must always be compatible! -
Always use transfer case and rear diff from the same model car.
Rear suspension / rear diff. Choices - (worst-to-best)
3rd) Evo 4-to-6 AYC (weakest, especially for 'drags') (All AYC E4-E9 kinna flakey IMO.)
E4-to-E7 AYCs give "idiot-proof" handling but restricts driver at the limit. E8-E9s much better!
2nd) Evo 4-to-9 GT or RS rear LSD (with correct Evo 6 RS axles) (strongest, good handling, rare & $$$)
1st) 1800 GSR=Evo 3=Evo 4 rear suspension, with rear helical LSD already installed.
... (strong, best handling IMHO, no understeer-inducing "push" like Evo RS "clutch-type" LSD.
... & ITZ FREE if you bought a 4wd GSR)
Everybody's $0.25c |

Please post the EXACT details of the combination used. Plenty other 2nrs are interested.
