1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport (XJ)

Bought from only previous owner. with 50,000M on the odometer.
Goals so far.
Ensure vehicle is working properly
Be able to handle whatever service / maintenance it requires.
Hopefully I'll get to put it through some mild to moderate 4x4 Offroading fun.

Vehicle Specs.........
the specs i'm seeing online are interesting.
4.0L I6 MPI "Power Tech HO" (High Output) Engine rated at
190 hp @ 4750 rpm, and 225 ft lb torque @ 3000 rpm

Unfortunately with it being automatic, we know there will be some loss, but its intention is not for racing.

Sorted out soem problems.
* Ignition tumbler. (key could not be inserted, if removed). There was a misaligned shaft in the steering column.

* Horn reconnected (previous owner had run an auxillary switch) Touch panel in steering wheel was disconnected when airbag deployed

* 2WD RWD works.
4WD Part time (4WH) works.
Some problem selecting 4WD full-time (4WL). Lever is a linear selector. There is a lot of resistance carrying it all the way down. this is the next thing on my itinerary.

WR, WM Gittens was the guy from ACL who had originally sponsored the tent and used to sponsor tyres as prizes.......

I can, and i will at the next baseline day.
While on the lift i tested the 2WD mode, and only the rear tires rotate. Mr. Green
So, i looking forward to spinning Mr. Audi's drum with it. Twisted Evil

learnt the 2H / 4H / 4L selection should be done only when tranny selector is Neutral.
Works wonderfully................ Cool
Looking forward to rainy season Twisted Evil
-----------------------------------------------------------
Shimmy at 55mph.
Van bucks badly when accelerating past this speed.
Works fine when it passes it, or even coasting at it.
Took it to Mileage Mack, to recheck wheel balances. Turned out one of the rims was slightly bent. Placed defective rim in the back, and problem solved. up to 70mph Mr. Green and i wont say how quickly it got up to that speed. Twisted Evil
I'm not enthused with the stock rim though so........WTB 15" 6 hole RWD rims

Installed electric horns (upgrade), left original horn in, two switches, one for each system. Van now has polite toot, and WTF yuh think yuh doing?

Changed the vans belt, had some fine cracks, and this is an item i prefer to change pre-emptively, as opposed to being under a silk cotton tree, with no light other than the headlamps.
Will try to inspect the ones in d wagon sometime today.

yuh should get off of road all now because............

1) van makes sharp turns better, if steering is locked full, and gas pedal is stomped to make rear wheel break traction. Twisted Evil

2) van can slide "drift" easily for at least 20 feet. makes turning at high speed that much easier in some cases. Twisted Evil

update.........
Check engine light has been on since the previous owner had it.
now according to the Service Manual, CEL on is minor emissions problem. CEL flashing is more serious problem.
Borrowed an Actron CP9135 code reader, and diagnosed that CEL to be a missing external temperature sensor. Should get replacement within a month.
Bought said code reader (would make future trouble shooting easier).
Pity it doesn't seem to handle Asian vehicles though.

And i notice a lot of 99 Cherokee's on the road lately, not Left-Hand-Drive or Sport models though.
