Just got off the phone with TTASA president Jameer Ali.

He has confirmed that TTASA has all documents signed for use of an old crop duster airstrip at Frederick Settlement in the middle of the Caroni rice project to be used as a temporary drag racing strip.

The location needs some work as the current structure is dilapidated. They hope to get the work done and the track and facilities prepared for an event in mid July 2007!!!

The news gets better: Jameer confirmed that this is a temporary solution while their plans for a permanent MotorSport Complex is being worked on which will be located at Mausica, east of the Piarco runway. The 200 acre facility will be state of the art when completed - though no completion date has been set and signatures from the govt are still being sought. There are plans to use part of the 200acres to have an oval dirt race track or rally cross circuit to continue racing while the complex is being built.

In the mean time attention is being given to the temporary strip in the rice project. One very strict rule already being implemented at rice project is that ABSOLUTELY NO glass bottles or containers will be allowed on the site since the rice paddy fields are so close by, as a safety precaution for the rice farmers.
