like how timing adjustments are made |

good reading but i wanted something more indepth with respect to how or what signals the ecu uses to retard the timing |

i hear yuh.................
speculative guesswork.....................
on the dyno, when an engine is pinging it shows as a lack of rpm signal.
if that's what a knock sensor picks up. the ECU would then retard timing to prevent further knock. as to exactly how a knock sensor picks up that lack of signal, im clueless _________________ PROUD MEMBER OF D WAGON BOYZ @ DEX

you speculated wrong though. The knock sensor is a piezo-electric sensor. It very simply picks up the spark knock or ping and converts the vibrations into a voltage which is read by the PCM. Whenever the PCM sees a signal from the KS, it retards ignition.
As far as waste spark goes, it simply means that one coil fires 2 plugs simultaneously. One cylinder on the compression stroke (effective), the other on exhaust stroke (ineffective). The spark jumps from centre electrode to ground on one, and ground to centre electrode on the other. |

the reason for the question is i'm running 16+ psi of boost but ah knocking sometimes on the higher gears or on hills so i wanted a way besides a piggyback to retard the timing |
