http://www.chevettes.com/showroom.php?section=va&page=75

I figured I just had to do a follow-up

.........and in other news, I had a close inspectin of the HSR's tyres, all of which seem to be sufering from dry-rot, as indicated by fine cracks in the sidewalls.....they due for changing anyway, having been on te car for 5 years or so

Lookin to fit some Goodyear Eagle NCT2 205 60 13s

puit in the K&Ns yesterday
Spent about an hour with some unleaded and autosol to shine them up before putting in the new elements. We'll have to wait a while before the dyno tells us if the new exhaust and these filters make a difference over the last pull, with the old leaky manifold and no filters

ZOINKS!!!

Two aborted midnight runs with the HSR
Plan was to drive down south with the MG, and back up with the HSR, and keep it at the apartment until time to ship her off to Tobago. Drove the MG down on Friday night, and dad warmed up the HSR in the meantime, and then parked it in the yard. Time to swap cars, and HSR would not start. Clearly an electrical gremlin.
I unscrewed the distributor rotor (yeah, u read that right), and cleaned the points...time to put the rotor back on, and it cracked when I was tightening it Evil or Very Mad
Seems I did not seat it properly. Drove back up to the apartment with the MIni Cooper.........went down to Johnny Gobin in Munroe Road on saturday to hunt for a rotor. JG specialises in bedford parts, and has huge stocks.

Why Bedford? The HSR shares the same engine block with the Bedford CF Van, 2.3 Viva GT and 101 Victor. They all carry the same AC Delco dizzy.....after some digging, Mrs. Gobin found the correct rotor, and I bought 2 at $48 each. We had a nice chat about why she likes vauxhalls so much...something about interchangable parts Very Happy

So rotor installed yesterday, and more troubleshoting isolated the coil as the offender. No shops open, so I ended pillaging the MG for a coil...........

So it was up the highway, trying to keep it around 3500rpm in 5th (maybe around 110 - 120kph), because my wife wa folowing in the corolla. The car definitely hates cruising under 3000, and it wa still fussy at 3500
THe car is now in Curepe, waiting for a sail date

Simple really,
From my investigations, the guys who can repair the fibreglass cannot repair the metalwork, and cerce vicea
My buddy in Tobago has found someone who he said could do the job. Being a a genuine finicky Englishman, (as opposed to yours truly, the wannabe finicky Englishman), I have elected to trust Peter's judgement.

The car is now at the bodyshop, under Peter's daily supervision. Many thanks to Wagonrunner who made the trip to Tobago with me on Saturday. The car scraped its underside when being driven onto the boat, but had no issues getting off in Tobago.

Besides the bodywork, Peter has been given permission to tinker as much as he wants with the car, although he is still calling me for permission before he does anything. We both agree the acceleration is off, and the car is not performing as it should. So first on the post-bodyjob list will be the carbs, followed by whatever tickles his fancy.

I plan on leaving the car in Tobago for a few months, mostly because I want to see it next to Peter's Firenza when he completes the bodyjob. Just imagine, two of the rarest postwar vauxhall sportscars together in Tobago.....the odds of winning the lotto are peobably better, so I expect to win soon
