Hi.

Getting a problem on my 1.8 306xr.

Every now and then when I start it, it does not idle. It just cuts off when I release the accelerator.

When this happens, I can drive it for like 5 mins using both feet to manually idle it and then it's ok.

Any ideas?

Car gets regular service. Oil / filter change 1-2 times per year; engine serviced last year, cooling system overhaul, stepper motor sensor changed 2005, etc.

Have you spoke with the firm/mechanic about it?

Do the following

Remove the stepper motor, clean the throttle body. wipe clean the stepper motor (do not spray it out, if you really feel the need to do this use wd40) remove the battery negative terminal for 10 Min. after this do the following
with no electrical load ( lights a/c etc) switch on the ignition for 10sec, then switch off for 10 sec, then on again for 10 Sec. After this start, again no load for 1 min. after the 1 min apply all load, without touching the accelerator ( power windows, wipers, lights etc).
Following this drive the car in all gears above 3500rpm. This will allow the engine ecu to initialize and will solve the idle problem.

Additional checks should include the vacuum hose to the MAP sensor (located on the drivers side shock tower. This hose tends to split with age and will cause the car to run rich, too rich when cold and it will cut of until warm)

this should solve the problem
