Does anyone locally repair Canon Powershot digital cameras?
The LCD screen does not display the image when the shutter (is this the right term???) is open and all I am getting is a black screen with occasional horizontal static type lines. The LCD screen itself works as when I bring up the menus, it shows fine. Because of the black screen, the camera is not taking any photos, even if I turn off the LCD screen and use the viewfinder (correct term???).
Is the Powershot shot or is there hope?
If the camera is beyond repair, any recommendations for a new digi-cam that would fall in the range of TT$1,500 to TT$2,000?
Any assistance (good news or bad news) would be sincerely appreciated.
Thanks. |

Thanks alot. In case they ask, it is a Canon PowerShot A310.
I really don't know if it makes financial sense to send it back to the USA for repairs when you compare the shipping cost as opposed to the cost of a new camera. |

I know of David's Filmvue. The company I work for rents equipment from DF. I'll give him a call tomorrow.
Thanks. |

In my experience, the cost of repairing a modern camera usually means it makes more sense to buy a new one.....I bought a Sony S500 6MP plus a 1 gig memory stick for CAN$300..........the camera, if memory serves, cost CAN$240, about TT1200 _________________

My camera is dead. It will cost about $700 to repair (plus the $100 I paid just for the guy to diagnose the problem), but I paid just over $1,000 for it about 2-1/2 years ago, so it really does not make financial sense to repair it.
For anyone who is interested, I was referred to a guy in Chaguanas who repairs digital cameras (and other such electronic devices). His name is Keston (telephone number 316-8407) and the name of his place is Token Electronics. It is located on Beckles Street which is off the Caroni Savannah Road.
Yeo, I tried David's Filmvue but they said they do not repair digital cameras. Thanks anyway.
Anyhow, I have to buy a new camera. I have set myself a budget of TT$2,000. The camera is not for any professional type of photography, just to document memories of life (good and bad). Any suggestions on good cameras in that price range.
For those who are suggesting cameras that I would have to import, please remember that Duties (30% or 35% of CIF price I believe) and VAT would have to be added when clearing it through Customs, so the camera would have to cost just a little over US$200.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. |
