Scuderia Ferrari (significantly no longer Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro) kicked off the new season with the launch of its new car, codenamed the 658 within Ferrari, but racing as the F2007. Rather than unveiling the car the team issued only a few carefully-chosen photographs, notably nothing from the rear end, presumably because there are aerodynamic solutions that the team is keen to keep under wraps for as long as possible. In the modern world of F1 new ideas are quickly in rival windtunnels and on the cars and so every day that secret is kept is a day in which the team has an advantage. Given the fact that some of the teams intend to have new aero packages before the start of the year, the launches are really only of commercial interest as the chassis are not only very similar to one another but also not necessarily the cars that will be raced.

According to the team the new car is significantly different to the 248 F1. The design was revised to accommodate a new front suspension that represents a major conceptual innovation, mainly in terms of aerodynamics. The shape of the side-pods and their openings are also revised, based on modifications to the cooling system, which also implies exits for the radiators on the upper part of the bodywork, while the engine air intake is also substantially different. The car has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. The rear of the car is much narrower, taking advantage of the more sculpted shape of the gearbox housing, which again this year is made from carbon fibre. The gearbox itself, which is still mounted longitudinally, is fitted with an innovative quick-shift system (seven gears plus reverse). The rear suspension is similar to that on the 248 F1, but the teams says that it is planning a significant development programme based on knowledge that has been gained working with the 2007 tyres.

The car features no tobacco branding although the white lines where Marlboro used to be are, no doubt, intended to maintain the image built up since the team's Marlboro sponsorship began. Vodafone has been replaced by Alice, the Italian broadband company.

dis car had better perform dis year ! dis is meh fav. team and ah done fed up of seeing alonso on d podium ! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
wish michael had stayed ! kimi has big boots to fill ! he has d talent and d potential of course, but does he have the style, the charisma, that special "something" that schumi has ?

I had wished that jean todd and co. would have given jacques villeneuve the opportunity to race for ferrari ! his late father gilles had done so well at ferrari; it would have been interesting because jacques has talent ! he was just never lucky to be in the right team at the right time, after he had won the championship in his rookie year at F1 !
I wonder what the tfosi's would be saying and doing if kimi does not deliver ! those passionate italians eh gonna tolerate any lil boy failing to do a man's job !
i am no big fan of kimi ! but for d sake of ferrari, i will give d boy a fair chance and hope he lives up to expectations ! after all:

IF IT EH RED, IT DEAD ! Crying or Very sad Wink Wink

LOL @ unibrow alonso.

Anyway, he is going to win the F1 championship this year. McLaren have been downplaying their car's performance in testing this year.

elsa!!, look at my sig and get accustomed to seeing that cross the finish line first in each race this year. Very Happy

This season should be very interesting. Kinda sad Schumi gone but ohh well. I think ferrari have a good chance of winning this year...as for Mclaren, they need to provide Alonso with a good car that will last the entire race.

All I'm hoping for is that Flow/Speed actually show the races this year and not stop the broadcast after 5mins Confused

I think they did that for the non-European races only. What I ended up doing was signing up on www.formula1.com for the real time scoring and timing and following the race using that with the laptop computer on the bed.

Basically, you have a read out of where everyone is in the race, lap times, time behind the leader, who has pitted, a lap by lap commentary, etc. Kind of pathetic way to follow the F1 race, but say what, I am a die hard fan and need to know what was going on. My wife used to laugh at me for not being able to wait until they showed the re-broadcast later in the night to find out who won.

When you do combine the real time scoring with the television broadcast, I find it is much better as the TV coverage does not give you all that type of information on one page.

I did that for the Bazillian GP....you're right, you get a lot more info from the site. I don't mind looking at the re-broadcast but even that was frozen.

Let me tell you why Ferrari will not win the constructor's championship this year.

1) They do not have master tactician Ross Brawn who is on sabbatical.
2) Rory Byrne did not design this year's car.
3) While they have one excellent driver, Kimi Raikkonen, and one good driver, Felipe Massa, neither could come close to the skill of Michael Schumacher (and it pains me to say this because of his lack of sportsmanship).
4) There is trouble within the ranks, with Nigel Stepney (Ferrari's current Race Technical Manager) making comments about if he got an attracttive offer elsewhere then he might consider leaving Ferrari.
5) There just isn't the synergy in the team that there was when the 4 musketeers, Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, Rory Byrne and Michael Schumacher were there.

You need not only a good car, but good chemistry within the team, in order to consistently win. Both Massa and Raikkonen feel that they have something to prove this year and may end up taking points away from each other and, possibly, taking each other out in the race. If Ron Dennis couldn't control Raikonnen, then how would Jean Todt?

My $0.02 special for Carnival.
