I'm thinking the best people to ask would be MG Man and Inshan... hopefully they see this post and reply to your questions. _________________ www.ttonline.org

As long as the body is goood and sturdy , you have a good platform to build on.
check chassis for rot especially around suspemnsion mounting points. if it was a old racecar chances are it may have the capri diff which is made of neverdonium .. this can handle the SR20 with ease ..
you will need to upgrade the brakes and bushings throughout , remake all the rubber bushings with teflon or equivalent. and adapt some late model performance brakes from nissan to work on the front.
leave the rear brakes alone if it has the capri diff.
$8500 all depends on the condition of the car.. hard to say without seeing it.. but as always .. the lower price u pay leaves u with more $$ for mods..
and the friggin word is DRIVE shaft & this model escort only uses one diff.

^^^sounds like rubbish, especially for 85k
I'd bet the body is full of filler and structural rust
have fun killin yourself when u drop in ur SR
seriously tho, a Mk1 Escort has limited suspension capability
anything over 150bhp and u will need some serious bits to handle the power, and I don't jst mean suspension bushes
u sound very young, and I am guessing have limited RWD driving experience. An escort with the mods u desire will more than likely end with a bang if u try to corner fast............... _________________

The Mk1 is pretty old, even if there is no rust there will be structural stress. Unless you intend to significantly build on the existing framework, don't put an SR20 in it (besides that being the most stereotypical RWD engine to put in it).
Leave the poor Escort alone in it's old age, unless you intend to restore it properly. Save your money, and perhaps, your life. _________________
