In other news, I've been looking at the PhantomGrip LSD conversion. Anybody have any thoughts on it?

Mr. Fixables and I fitted a Phantom Grip to his Civic sedan a few years back and noticed the differance almost immediately, it really became obvious when the Phantom Grip was fuly broken in.

the Phantom Grip acts like a brake between the spider gears in the differential. while not actually locking the gears together it makes the diff more "positive" by creating resistance between the gears.
the surface of the Phantom Grip rubs the inside of the spider gears, there will be wear, the phantom grip should be of a softer material than the spider gear which will cause the Phantom Grip to wear rather than the spider gear.
i would recomend a diff oil change after the initial break in period to eliminate any particles and regular oil changes, inspect the oil for foreign matter which will indicate serious wear problems.

I finally got me some K&Ns for the HSR..............my mechanic gave me an old pair, but the elements were too far gone, so I ordered a pair from Andy at Quickbits
All I need now is to polish up the chrome

From the pic, u can tell th new K&N element and the old K&N. The old K&N rubber seals were hard and distorted. The square element is the original element from when the car was new.............basically cotton-wool in a wire mesh housing
The original is deeper, but I hoping I get a better pulse off the closer frontplate on the K&N

And here's new vs original

brief update, K&Ns not fitted yet, maybe tomorrow.
It is confirmed, the car will be shipped to tobago in about six weeks for body repairs. It will be under the watchful eye of a good friend, former (retired) Vauxhall General Manager and General Motors Senior Executive. His last big project was working on development of the C5 Corvette Exclamation , one of which became his company car!!! His current fleet includes an HPF Firenza, Rolls Phantom (1968), 1938 Vauxhall 14/4 and a replica Fort GT40
My only concern is if he'll hand the HSR back over when its done
