Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. said on Friday it planned to produce 9.42 million vehicles in 2007, more than the number produced this year by ailing General Motors, now the world's biggest automaker.

Toyota, releasing figures at an end-of-the-year press conference at its base in central Japan, said its production would go up four percent next year from 9.04 vehicles in 2006.

General Motors expects to produce 9.181 million vehicles this year. While it has not released figures for next year, analysts doubt the Detroit giant can significantly boost production in the midst of a painful restructuring drive.
