i think a good idea as well to start constructing a new facility would be to form a company and introducing shares to the public but to those who are involved in competing esp and true supporters (like the few who were really interested in what has to happen now and were at the meeting last night)...that's a way to start...cuz with having share ownership you can vote into management those who would seek the best interest of the competitors and supporters (everyone involved in motorsport) whih would mean a motorsport body put in charge of the facility and events that would include people from different aspect of motorsport who can work together without (too much) conflict...

then the other idea for getting sponsorship from the private companies who would want to advertise or leasing them a particular area on the land (hopefully the gov't will provide something cuz to buy land privately is Shocked Sad ) would be continued financial assistance...

TTASA needs to not focus on having an extension for the use of wallerfield and i think they should be out of the picture entirely unless they can come together to really do something good for motorsport instead of conflicting issues for the dominance/control of motorsport activities cuz to me it didn't seem as if they really care about what those involved in motorsport actually want/need until now...

I was at the meeting last night and it was a disappointing turn out...if media personnel were really there they would've proved the gov't/court stance that not many people involved in motorsport...it was sad to see that there weren't many people who wanted to voice their opinion as to what should happen now (esp after all the rants and raves of many on certain forums..no names called/fingers pointed Laughing )...not that if TTASA really wants to control motorsport they'd probably still do what they want, there wasn't enough support to show that people want things to be different...

Also the idea of protesting really may not do anything to help the plight of motorsport...cuz all the symposiums or protest action seems to have done nothing against smelters which are environmentally destructive...and I doubt that the Commissioner of Police will approve a thousand car protest far less for a couple thousand car protest...its not the same as when there were streets blocked off for the Keith Noel walk of protest...esp since this isn't seen as a factor affecting alot of the general public...even an aggressive protest action will be cause for people to be locked up and i dunno if anyone willing to be in that position...franlkly the gov't really doesn't care so much about the people of this country as opposed to making money and generating revenue from resources they don't seem to think will be depleted...cuz it is slowly becoming a dictatorship...

In saying all that, we as the public interested in motorsport have to come together to do something for what we love...the only thing i see we may need help from the gov't is to obtain land...but i dunno if there's much of a guarantee for that happening soon if at all...

Finally got to the forum there.. Honey's got a point - with the protesting.. But there must be a way to get other motorsport people to understand the severity of the matter and take action (organized and legal!). We cyar focus on what went wrong and who not doing what - we got to focus on coming together and showing them the best things of motorsport and all that it can and WILL bring.

Funny enough the other day I was thinking about the wallets that we sell and the fact that we sell the same rotary wallet (just an example) to people in the US, England, Netherlands, Australia should tell you something - motorsport is loved everywhere and it's almost a universal language- like music.. Whether yuh call it ah hood or a bonnet - you bring enthusiasts and they could easily relate to eachother on that common ground..

Would a protest really work? A court judgement has been passed...I agree it will show that the people are displeased..

I guess a protest would not affect the gov't too much since the people at Chatham (where they want to put the aluminium smelter) have been protesting their minds out to no avail. It will however, IF it is covered by the mainstream media, bring public awareness up.

This just in...

Apparently after spending all day in the office of the Minister of Sport, TTASA representatives were only allowed to see his 2nd in command who was unable to help or make any commitments to find a new home for motorsport.

TTASA then prepared an injunction against the decision made in the court matter of TTASA vs eTeck concerning the Wallerfield lands on Friday 15th December.

Protest action is planned as members of the motorsport community are invited to join the anti-smelter camp just outside UWI.

Spoke to Jameer earlier today. He said he spent all day in the office of the Minister and only got to see the 2nd in command who is unable to make any commitments. He said TTASA prepared the injunction to put pressure on the gov't to find a solution OR give more time at wallerfield to motorsport.

Protest action in planned today Saturday Decemmber 16th at UWI joinnig the anti-smelter camp and using automobile stickers saying "Keep our Roads safe... support a home for MotorSport." Protesters are expected to assemble between 6 and 9 pm today.

Despite many views that wallerfield should be given up and a new venue sought with the available resources, TTASA has filed another injunction to keep wallerfield for 2007 - this time as a civil matter. The first injunction and appeal were done as public matters and the judges ruled that the eTeck vs TTASA was a landlord vs tenant agreement and so was a civil matter - so this time the injunction is being filed in the right court.

This latest action will only bring about a temporary motorsport relief as the original agreement between eTeck and TTASA was that for 3 years motorsport would be allowed to continue in Wallerfield. This original 3-year period would have expired at the end of 2007. The injunction filed in the civil court would then re-validate this original agreement.

There are however rumours of a dragstrip being constructed in south Trinidad. Details are sketchy but some say this facility may be ready for basic drag racing as early as June 2007. This information has not been confirmed.

Ideally, if the government of Trinidad & Tobago could have the lands allocated for a motorsport facility then it could be built with private and public funding. Of course, the public benefits would have to be clearly outlined and justified.

Perhaps Trinidad & Tobago could adopt a license policy similar to that of foreign countries where young drivers are given a year or more of training before they obtain a full license. The facility could be incorporated into public learner's training for defensive driving and advanced car control.
