This information is designed to help with the basic set up of
any Birel kart and may not work with other kart types.
Axle Differences
Can you please tell me what types of axles Birel makes and how do they perform differently?
Birel produces four (4) primary axles which include the B, F, M and K axles. The following is a brief description of each axle and how it performs.
B The softest axle. This is to free up the rear or to take push out of the kart.
F The second softest axle from Birel. This axle should be your starting point on race weekends. This axle also has slightly more grip than the B axle.
M The medium grade axle. This is the stiffest axle you should ever consider putting in your kart.
K This axle is the stiffest in our Birel poll. It is generally used in shifter kart racing as a last resort for getting more rear bite.
All Birel axles are either 1040mm long or 1000mm short. The 1040mm axle causes the rear to be a little stiffer. The 1000mm axle acts like a middle step before going to a softer axle.
Axle Ride Height
If I move my axle up or down, how does it effect the go-kart?
Axle Down Starting position on Birel chassis. This position adds grip to the rear.
Axle Up Will take bite out.
Hubs
When I purchased my Birel go-kart I noticed that the hubs were a medium length. If I were to try a different size hub how would that change my handling?
Birel makes three different length hubs; the 75mm, 100mm and the 125mm.
75mm The short hubs are meant to help free up the kart without having to change the axle. If you use them and the kart went faster consider a softer axle.
100mm The medium hubs come standard on all models and are great starting point for the 2-cycle classes.
125mm The longest hubs are for use only if you need a lot of rear bite.
Torsion Bars
I noticed on the Birel that there is a front and rear bar that is removable. What does removing and adding this bar accomplish?
Front Bar When front bar is in, it creates more instant bite and makes for a heavier front end. Front bar out creates a softer more flowing chassis ultimately making the front end easier to drive.
Rear Bar The rear side bar follows the same idea as the front bar. Side bar in and it will create more grip, side bar out and it will create a freer chassis.
Seat Struts (Supports)
When I walk around the grid area I notice that people have a different amount of seat supports on the rear of their chassis, what would that do to my go-kart?
When seat struts are added to a chassis they are used to transfer weight to the outside tire and ultimately add bite and helps to pick up the inside tire.
Seat Mounting
Do you think I am able to mount my seat in my new Birel or should I have a professional do it?
Unless you have done it before seat mounting is a very important and tricky thing to do. Obviously the seat position changes along with driver height and weight. Our suggestion at 3-S Go-Karts is to give us a call, bring it by the shop or stop by and see us at the track; we are more then happy to help you out.
I have heard of other drivers mentioning the terms caster and camber pills. What do these two different pills accomplish?
Camber
By adding camber the chassis has smaller patch of tire on ground essentially causing the front end to have less grip; also take notice that the tires will have a slight lean to the outside.
Caster
By adjusting the caster this causes the king pin bolts to move front wards or backwards. _________________ Drags, Circuit, Solodex, Rally, Karting, the Shows, the Girls, the Car you drive...
