Cooler, should not be below the manufacturer specs for temp.....if you modify a ride for performance(speed) it cannot run cooler...it will always run hotter...thus bigger radiator etc....
it you run too cool then u become inefficient for power...hence the reason all engines have an operating temp where they are most efficient & powerful...of course with mods for speed that temp will no longer be manufacturer spec...based on your mods...but if your engine is stock, running cooler temps than manufacturer spec will not be that wise as you have no reason to do this...the pugs run at that temp based on research & development as with all other brands...you can make adjustments to temp but why? if you think it is safer for the engine...not really or else we would not need fans & radiators etc....every gas engine must make fire in order to make power.

Agreed Tamer, but was this engine designed to run at those temps in atmosphere such as ours? We are considerably hotter than France and England hence the reason that i'll assume they wanted these engines to run close to hotter.....
Just my thoughts here..

Well i do not think these cars were designed specifically for any particular country.....otherwise if it was so sensitive we would not have alot of Euro cars in trinidad...... these engine temps has a range in which to operate i am sure.... the diff in temp from England or France to Trinidad should not make that much of a diff...while we do xperience hoter temp in certain countrys the temps will be diff globally also....All i am saying is Trinidad temp ain't that hot to make your engine temp rise to that much like 97, cause your cooling system is supposed to be intelligent to allow the car to run at designed spec or else u would overheat from the time u come out the dealership...

Well it's the bitron that's acting up. Unfortunately the local dealer doesn't have any in stock .... mechanic was suppose to go to Martinique yesterday ..... I hope he got one while he was there.

Oh both fans are pretty new less than 6 months.

As per Lion Tamer's comment, my mechanic's not willing to alter the running temp says its suppose to run around 90 and he's keeping it there.

Yes 90 is the benchmark...just so you guys know i made dyno pulls at 300.2 brake horsepower & engine temp was only 94 with a blown head gasket & this ride has been modified to hell......
so please do not adjust temps unless you know why u r doing this & it is infact going to be to your benefit....my fans comes in at 85 but set to high speed only....this is controlled & monitored by my ECU...my reasons here is based on i have trippled engine power so i need to do all i can to run efficient engine temps & even so my adjustment was only 5 degrees...cause i have massive all aluminium radiator & other goodies.....glad to hear that you found the root of the problem...so this forum is resourceful afterall.............

Not sure about what info Solo gave u...but my rad is from summit racing...very large, all aluminium & designed for circuit racing.....my reason for choosing this rad was because Euros normally run slightly higher temps than Japs do....with this rad i can run all day long with no temp issues...
it is a custom fit & works as direct replacement with inlet & oulet tubes on the same side as OEM rad..

Me again guys ...

Update: mechanic bought the wrong bitron but claims he knows a guy that can fix the old one .....

not to a stickler but .....

LionTamer said
"If your engine is in stock trim then it should not go past 90 even if it is a hotter day outside.."

My fans cut in at 92 (therefore I always go over 90) so the temp bounces between 90 and 94 without AC; is this acceptable given the above statement?

I've also noticed that the Pug temp guage seems to move around alot in comparison to Jap cars. Mine changes going up hills, down hills or idling in traffic. My temp can drop as low as 80 after a 5min decent. Why is this , is it a less efficient temp management system? Or is car buggered?

BlindLove to answer your questions...... firstly your fans cutting in at 92 is ok...i think it is hardly likely that u will have exacting temps constantly as your car gets older(wear & tear) 92-95 is ok but maybe there is a slight problem you have with your cooling system like you need a radiator flush or to bleed system properly, or radiator not as efficient as it used to be...cooling systems can develop problems that takes you very long to diagnose properly. however you are not in a critical state. Fans cutting in at 92 is acceptable but they suppose to cut in at 90....when they cut in at 90 you already building temp so it will get a few degrees hotter before it cools back down....cause u will not get instant cooling from fans as it takes breeze to cool the system so u will get a degree or 2 hotter.
Secondly, the temp does move around in the pugs when going up hill or down hill as more or less strain is put on the engine, idling in traffic also..this is perfectly normal in pugs but is also normal in many japs...u have no porblem there.

PLEX: My radiator is from SUMMIT RACING which is overseas.
