206 GTi 180 - A Genuine Thoroughbred

Hot on the heels of the outstanding 206 WRC, three-times World Rally Champion, the 206 GTi 180 takes up pole position in the dynamic 206 range.

A Sporting and Distinguished Exterior

Beneath its 3-door silhouette, clearly identifiable yet purposely understated exterior styling, lies a nucleus of refined technological excellence - and muscles developed for the task of fulfilling its sporting potential. Large 17" alloy wheels, a wide rear spoiler and a twin chrome-plated tailpipe indicates the sporty temperament of the car, while its full body-coloured exterior fittings (bumpers and side rubbing strips) and exclusive carbon finish reflects its top-of-the-range character.

A Sporty and Comfortable Passenger Compartment

This 4-seater features four racing-style seats, which accentuate the cars luxurious sporting feel due to their secure support, their finish and the choice of materials used in manufacture. In the same vein, the instrumentation and controls, instrument panel, dual leather steering wheel, aluminium pedals and gear lever knob are meticulously finished with an eye for detail, to compliment the new micro carbon look of certain features.

Like all 206 models, the fascia panel features an anti-reflective finish which is soft to the touch.

The Sporty Values

The sporty values of the Peugeot marque are further enhanced by the 206 GTi 180 its engine/suspension and wheels combine to formidable effect.

The two-litre four-cylinder engine develops 180 bhp at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 152 lb-ft at 4,750 rpm.

The engine is fitted to a cable-controlled close ratio gearbox with a shorter gear change action to promote a sporty feel. First gear ratio has been lengthened to ensure dynamic acceleration, particularly on sharp bends, with maximum engine speed increased to 7,300 rpm.

With its high-performance suspension and wheels, the 206 GTi 180 offers excellent driving pleasure and comfort.

The front suspension geometry has been modified with stiffer springs compared to the S16 to enhance traction and roadholding, while at the rear the latest generation rear axle includes two tie rods to maintain rear axle stability and improve road holding this is similar to that first seen on the 206 SW.

This suspension is complemented by Pirelli P7000 205/40 R17 W tyres mounted on 17" alloy wheels. The 206 GTi 180 has particularly efficient power steering, modulated according to engine speed, which contributes to provide increased driving pleasure and directional control.

The 206 GTi 180 is equipped with ESP (electronic stability programme), the joint functions of which traction control and directional control can be switched-off at any time.

Brake discs and calipers cater for the performance and endurance expected of this sports version of the car.

at 7.5 to sixty, I won't call it a thoroughbred by modern standards. You need sub-seven at worst to attract any real attention
