Z-Wordsmiths - Engineering Brilliance of the Written Word
Okay, I'm sure many of you read Car Magazines (or novels or anything) from time to time and come across bits of literature that just make you want to scream with delight. As soon as you can muster up enough self control to minimize the ensuing shakes and ripples, feel free to quote your writers right here, of course giving the proper credit where you can.
Of course, we will not limit you to loaded, juicy, humourously descriptive quotes but rather encourage you to post any sort of outstanding use of the language. Although it may be temping to just fill this thread with crass and crude cusswords, the destinations on that road have been visited by most.
Might we also suggest that you can from time to time research and explore the meaning of less used words or widely-used-but-never-quite-explained ones as well that appear from time time throughout the automotive genre. The road (or the word) less travelled might sometimes take the long way around, but the journey therein is that much more satisfying. Sounds alot like women. Anyway, let's get to it.

Thanks for the bump, Narend
OK, I found this little gem on page 85 of the September issue of Road and Track magazine:
"Caterham CSR - Proof that light is might"
words by Shaun Bailey
"Driving a Seven in town is a bit like piloting a rocket-propelled soapbox racer through the living room. All other cars seem overweight and bloated. To see the road ahead, look under the Lincoln Navigator in front of you. To drive a Seven is to be perpetually stuck behind something bigger and slower."

Jeremy Clarkson on the Lancer Evo VIII MR FQ-340
Beg, steal or borrow this car
Quote: | You have to trade power for longevity and I suspect that 340bhp is right on the edge of everyday practicality. I note with some surprise that the engine still comes with Mitsubishis three-year warranty, but then I see also that it must be serviced once every 10 minutes or so. |
Quote: | You curl up like a foetus with embarrassment every time you park it in a built-up area, because you know everyones looking and everyones thinking, What a prat.
Still, because it is a four-door saloon it is reasonably practical. I mean, it has a boot and so on, and it does come with such niceties as air-conditioning and electric windows. It also has one of those stereos that slide out of the dash and beep a lot. However, not being 12, I couldnt make it work. |
more Clarkson gems here.

Clarkson on the Nissan Navarra
Quote: | The Nissan Navara Aventura I drove had rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, a voice-activated mobile phone and satellite navigation. It also had five leather seats and deep-pile carpets. But underneath it had leaf springs, such as you would find on an ox cart on a Chinese farm.
So it rode with all the comfort of the Middle Ages and handled with all the poise and panache of a boulder tumbling down a hillside. It wasnt what youd call quiet, either. Unless you test shotguns for a living. In a blast furnace. |

Jeremy Clarkson, The Sunday Times, July 23 2006
(Review of the 997 911 Turbo) "This becomes obvious when you look at the new Porsche 997 Turbo in the 911 series. Youll note its the 997, which means its one newer and one better than the 996. But it isnt one better at all. Its millions better. If Id made it, Id have called it the Porsche Jesus Christ Almighty Would You Look At That Bastard Go." _________________ www.ttonline.org
