Evolution 6 RS
1999-2000

The RS version of the EVO VI is designed for entry in motor sport events. With lighter onboard parts and no luxury features, it makes the EVO VI RS lighter and easier to control when in performance.

Air conditioning, central locking, and other features have been removed. The RS has smaller measurements and sizes but retains a stronger Shell and lighter Accessories such as Front bumper and rear wing.

The turbocharger uses a titanium alloy turbine-a world-first-for reduced intake pressure losses and improved response and high-end power output. Available is a double plate clutch that reduces losses in rapid torque transmission under race conditions.

Engine: 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve in-line four, intercooled with aliminum/titanium turbocharger
Power: 280 bhp @ 6500 rpm (209 kW)
Torque: 373 Nm @ 3000 rpm
Weight: 1260 Kg

0-100 km/h: 4.6 seconds Est.

Evolution 6 RS-2
1999-2000

The Evo VI RS2 is the proper ready-for-use motorsport special with the only changes being the addition of air conditioning, airbags and electric windows.

The Difference between the GSR and the RS-2?
The Difference is that the RS-2 has a bodyshell with gussets, braces and reinforcements designed to withstand Various Rallies. The Bonnet and front guards are lightweight, aliminium items and the front airdam contains the trick ducting to the brakes and very clever air-duct to the oil cooler which exits through the bumper bar. The RS-2 also has a Competition turbocharger with a titanium alloy impeller and all the plumbing and hardware for the anti-lag system.

The Intercooler is the competition model used on the Group A Rally Cars and has twin water sprays to further lower temperatures. The RS-2 Gets ultra-close gearbox ratios 'Rally Version' were 3rd, 4th and 5th are moved even closer together. The steering rack is the quick-ratio version with just 1.8 turns lock-to-lock and theres a power steering cooler neatly positioned between the radiator and the intercooler.

The Evo VI RS-2 Production numbers were 957 units. 800 were Left Hand Drive and 157 were made Right Hand Drive.

Evolution 6 Tommi Makinen Edition
2000-2001

This model was developed to commemorate works driver Tommi Makinen's unprecedented feat of taking four consecutive WRC Drivers Championships when he won the championship in 1999. The Tommi Makinen Edition sported an exclusive exterior trim and coloring and interior design and trim based on the works machine. The engine and suspension were tuned for optimum performance and handling on tarmac.

In its exterior appearance, the auxiliary lights were removed from the oversize front bumper in an exclusive design giving priority to aerodynamic performance. Standard on Tommi Makinen Edition were the same 17-inch alloy road wheels as the WRC works machine. Reproducing the details of the works car, a special coloring package was offered as a factory option. The WRC works car theme was continued inside with: a red color scheme, RECARO bucket seats carrying the Tommi Makinen logo, red-stitch leather trim for the MOMO steering wheel and shift lever knob, and red-on-black graphics instrumentation. The Tommi Makinen Edition used the same twin-scroll turbocharger with titanium alloy turbine as Evolution VI, with optimized compressor wheel size and blade configuration. Ducts in the front bumper cool engine intake air.

Other features exclusive to Tommi Makinen Edition include a large-diameter tail pipe and sports muffler that reduce exhaust pressure losses and noise, and a new-design fuel tank reservoir cup that stops fuel from surging to one side under high-G cornering. Overall height was lowered 10mm, while front and rear roll center height was optimized. Handling response was also enhanced with the use of front strut tower bars and a quicker steering gear ratio.

Engine: 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve in-line four, intercooled turbocharged Titanium/aliminium turbine
Power: 206 kW @ 6500 rpm

Evolution 6 TM-V4
2000

Little information is available about the TM-V4. So, what is it you ask?

The TM-V4 is apparently a Step 1 Kit for the TME which decreases inhalation resistance. A New air filter, radiator cap, injection-valve open pressure 127 KP, a newer radiator hose set made of the silicon make which is superior in durability and ignition energy. Also included is a new sparkplug cable set, sport shift knob and the TM-V4 bonnet sticker.

The TM-V4 uses 18 x 8 alloys 235/40 Pilot Sport tyres and a body kit that attempts to disguise the shape's age. Only 50 units were supposedly made - Furthermore, a separate installation payment occurs in installing of the parts.

Engine: 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve in-line four, Turbocharged
Power: 280HP/206kW?
Torque: 400Nm? Est.

Evolution 6 Zero Fighter
1999/2000

There has probably been more confusion with the Zero Fighter then any other EVO VI model to date. The Evo VI Zero Fighter that were all more then likely familiar with is this Silver one from the UK. If you've read the article over at Warrender then you would know that this car is infact a GSR spec with AYC rather then an RS with AYC stripped - Confusing? Reason being for the GSR-spec is apparently Mitsubishi ran out of RS-spec cars and built this Zero Fighter on a late GSR-spec.

Now.. Onto the specs - The chassis not only runs lower, but on stiffer springs and dampers. The anti-roll bars are thicker and the mounts firmer. Those wheels are an inch bigger in diameter than the standard Evo VI's, and shod with 225/40 ZR17 Bridgestone S-02 tyres. There's also a cool-looking alloy strut brace between the front turrets to stiffen things up further. Other changes centre on the engine and its ancillaries. A smarter Mitsubishi Motor Sports ECU has been fitted, along with aluminium intercooler piping, a new induction system complete with mushroom-shaped air filter, a stainless Sports exhaust system and catalyst, plus lighter titanium turbo internals for improved response.

The result is a whopping 340bhp, an increase of 60bhp over the standard Evo VI, and the same as the RS Sprint. Boost pressure remains at 1.1bar, against the RS Sprint's s1.3bar setting so you're getting the same power with less stress n the internals, which has to be a good thing for a 2-litre, four-cylinder motor.

Engine: 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve in-line four, Turbocharged
Power: 340 bhp @ 6500 rpm (254 kW)
Torque: 409 Nm @ 3000 rpm
Weight: N/A

0-100 km/h: 4.2 sec
0-400 m: N/A

Brakes:
FRONT: BREMBO Ventilated Discs
REAR: BREMBO Ventilated Discs

Tyres: Bridgestone S-02 225/40 ZR18

Colours: Scotia White (Jap spec), Satelite Silver (UK spec)
Cost: N/A
Other: Production of this car was limited, very few were produced.

Evolution 6 RS Sprint
1999-2000

The RS Sprint is another Variation of the EVO VI based on the RS Spec. Developed by Ralliart UK the RS Sprint has very close features to RS models and was built and sold exclusively in the United Kingdom. The RS Sprint has no ABS, AYC, A/C, hi-fi or airbags, basically a stripped version like the RS for motorsport.

Some extras of the car include: fog Lamps, Ralliart mud flaps, super dragger exhaust, super flow filter and induction kit, Sprint engine upgrade (1.3 Bar boost), Ralliart fast road spring kit upgrade (28mm lower front; 14mm lower rear) and Ralliart brake upgrade (Brembo calipers: 320mm 4pot front; 305mm 2pot rear).

The EVO VI RS Sprint also has a lowered rear under spoiler, a competition rear LSD and titanium turbo internals. The RS Sprint also features a nifty switch which sprays water on the intercooler.

Evolution 6 Extreme
1999-2000

This is probably the ultimate (or close to) EVO VI. The eXtreme is tuned by RALLIART UK with various upgrades including: A custom ECU that provides higher turbo boost and titanium, aluminum turbo components. A larger set of 18" wheels fitted on 235/40 ZR18 tires, a lower suspension diameter (28mm at the front and 14mm at the back).

The eXtreme also has a high-ratio steering rack (2.1 turns lock-to-lock), Recaro front seats and an alot more interior carbon fibre which comes standard. A carbon wing, helix single-plate paddle clutch and 320mm racing front disc brakes.

Engine: 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve in-line four, intercooled and turbocharged
Power: 350bhp @ 6,500 rpm (260 kW)

Evolution 6 Squad (Police) Car
1999/2000

This EVO VI is one of the very few delivered to the Essex Police Force in the UK, in which they were asked to evaluate it. The Essex Police Force made it clear to Mitsubishi that whilst they were very pleased to try it out, it would be unlikely that they would run any in their fleet. The car was in their possession for 6-8 weeks.

There are many reasons here. Firstly, any cars that Essex Police Force use have to meet quite strict guidelines on things like; their reaction to radio sources and all sorts of other specifications. The maintainance of running one of these EVO VI's would be quite high as it would be going to the red-line most of the time. We do push our cars hard when in patrol. Rather than take 30 seconds at half throttle to catch up to a car we want to stop we tend to use 100% and get there in 10 seconds so we don't lose it.

That's fine on a race track where the car gets a new turbo every stage but I it may cost a police force a lot of money and when you have to weigh up what benefits we get, (they don't loose many stolen cars following them in ST200's) then we just can't justify the cost. You then also have to look at parts, waiting 3 months for a new wing to come in or a part from Japan for the engine means valuable time off the road and you just cannot afford that for a Police car.

Also, all of Essex Police mechanics are Ford qualified, so when a new Ford goes wrong we can repair it ourselves and if under warranty we claim back the parts from Fords. The driving school were given it for a few weeks to give HQ their views on it. It was then taken out by a few chosen people and some of our accident investiagtion unit. Sadly the clutch then went and Mitsubishi collected the car. The feedback was awesome, Essex Police would love to drive them all day, but in the end the cost is too much. I think that would go for any Police Force, maybe even Japans.

07/02/01

Lucky police officers around the UK are about to start testing a high performance Mitsubishi Evo VI for patrol duties. The 280bhp has been specially prepaired for police work and should act as a major deterrent to law-breakers.

Mitsubishi spokesman Matthew Cheyne told Hoot!; "We have developed this demonstrator in response to enquiries from police forces throughout th UK that are interested in have a 'hero' vehicle which no-one will try to outrun. "The Evo VI with its reputation fits 'the bill' perfectly and of course, its finacancially viable as well"

Evolution 6 RSX
2000

The EVO VI RSX is another Ralliart UK based EVO. It is kind of a mix with a GSR and an RS, but is closer to the specifications of an RS-2. It features a larger titanium turbo which apparently is larger then the ones fitted to the TME. It has No Active Yaw Control, No ABS and No climate control (still has AirCon). It's ECU is Different due to it having no AYC and ABS.

The RSX is also approximately 80kg lighter than the GSR with a stronger RS rear differential. Front helical limited slip differential comes standard, but the standard GSR gears remain with no short ratio box. Another addition to the RSX is Recaro SR bucket seats instead of the standard GSR Recaro trim bucket seats.

Mitsubishi Ralliart UK also made a very limited number of Zero Fighter Extreme II's

THe car actually went into an overboost or scramble boost for a temporary time and would make 400 bhp for a short period of time through the revs. 10 0-60 mph times were done with an average of 3.5 seconds!

Unfortunetly I cannot provide pictures and quotations to support this information because the owners webite which was affiliated with Ralliart UK was removed a few years back. But it's safe to say the car exists but is quite unknown to most. As far as distinguishing the car from a regualt Zero Fighter...it is not really bossible esthetically. The car has the same badges and rims.

^ ^ ^ Any info on which make/model/part number ECU they used for that one Question
Could it be similar to the one used for the Evo 6 RS450 Question
Sounds like an interesting item Exclamation Very Happy
Did it work with dual maps (like Chiptorque's Xede "piggy-back" ECU);
or was it more like an "add-on" electric boost control valve Question
Details Mutt... DETAILS please Exclamation

Your asking the wrong man jed. As I said, I can't support the claim...I have tried googling this car many times since then and can't pull up any articles, specs or even pics etc on it; much less part number of the ecu. You are much better are researching these things...maybe you might find it.

Here's the King of them all IMHO.
Nothing built by Mitsubishi before or since has that insane level of street performance.
Just right for this Mitsubishi MadMan Laughing
Even the mighty Evo VIII MR FQ400 can't come close to this level of "streetable" torque.
The main complaint of FQ400 is turbo lag; while RS450 can be faulted for under-gearing.
Of the two... I'd take an RS450 engine kit any day ... before the FQ400.

Evolution V-VI RS450
"The RS450 upgrade was only fitted to the Evo VI. Although one Evo V RS did have the
conversion done [white one featured in some magazines].
There were only 4 or 5 all based on eXtremes, and were based on the RS2, not an RS.
So, air con, long gearing but no AYC or ABS. AP brakes were fitted to most of them but it
wasn't mandatory, and some had 4-pot fronts with Brembo rears,
while the better option was 6-pot front/4-pot rear.
Why was it named the RS450? That was the torque figure they aimed for but never achieved.
... 450 bhp @ 6500 rpm / 380 lb.ft. @ 2800 rpm (est.* Question *) with wild ECU settings.
One has been measured [chassis dyno] at 383lbs.ft., with 379bhp. (WHP ?)
The FQ400 has 405bhp @ 6,400rpm and 355 lb-ft @ 5,500pm.

0-100 appears in just 8.8 seconds. A psychotic car!
Ralliart also reckon 0-60 will appear in under 4 seconds. (3.8 sec.)
The original price tag was 44,000! Rare as rocking horse s**t!
All the customer cars were mapped conservatively to make sure that none exploded - which they didn't!
More aggressive mapping would get much nearer to the "target" 450lbs/ft."
